Another Football Movie: The Express Trailer

I've almost had it with football movies. We Are Marshall was awful, Leatherheads wasn't good enough to bring around my appreciation for football movies and The Longshots doesn't look that great either. And if it weren't for the fact that The Express actually doesn't look half bad, I would've probably quickly passed it by. Hollywood seems to be churning out as many of their middle-ground family film trailers as possible so they're floating around throughout the summer. And here's another one. The Express is a drama based on the life of college football hero Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy.
If it weren't for that PG rating at the beginning, I would have never guessed that this was a much more lighter film. And I really like the way they set this up, using actual archival footage and presenting it like it's a real story, because it actually is. Bravo Universal for this great trailer.

The Express is directed by Gary Fleder, of Don't Say a Word, Impostor, and Runaway Jury, with a script written by Charles Leavitt, of K-PAX and Blood Diamond. The film is based on the nonfiction book Ernie Davis : The Elmira Express written by Robert Gallagher. The Express arrives in theaters everywhere on October 10th this fall.

I'm a sucker for these feel good sports movies so I know I will see this. 
I can recognize there are a lot of weaknesses when it comes to these types of movies but I think this looks promising. Also, I think the actual footage used in the beginning was a nice touch.

Hmm… wow.. Bustin on We Are Marshal… I loved it.. I just think it got screwed with poor timing… but opinion I guess.
This one looks interesting… but that is about it for me… just looks like a historical story about an amazing athlete.. then again.. it could just be Quaid that is turning me off from this a bit.

Looks okay. Hopefully it will be deeper, and moer about the struggles of African Americans in that time then some cheesy one dimensional happy ending sports movie. Here's hoping

As an SU grad steeped in the lore that is Ernie Davis…I'm counting the days. Biased? That I am. But this story is one that has needed to be told for decades.
And Rick…not to worry. There is no happy ending here. One of the saddest events in sports history. Think "Brian's Song". Only sadder.

Looking forward to it. I came to terms that I get tired of watching my football move collection over and over. I would love to watch someone elses story of overcoming obstacles off the field to reflect success on the field. Everyone has a story to tell (fiction or non-fiction), put the story to high definition using high tech equipment, and you've got millions of football fans watching your movie!

I am extrememly disappointed with the writers and directors for this movie. This movie is about Ernie Davis' life. He grew up in Elmira, NY. Yet they filmed not 1 scene in Elmira, NY. You can't go to another town/city and actually have it represent a real home town for someone. I wish the writers and directors of movies such as this would realize that. Just because this is a small rinky-dink town doesn't mean that it is not important. We had Ernie Davis. We had Eileen Collins. GET REAL HOLLYWOOD!!!!

We are Marshall was a great movie. At least it was a true story, unlike some of the others that have been put out recently. No, the topic is football, you aren't always going to get a epic movie but at least the sentiment and the overall good feeling was in the movie. Nothing is more inspiring than visiting the monunmental places depicted in the movie with your children.
