Worth Watching - June 4: Brad Anderson's Transsiberian Trailer
June 4, 2008

Transsiberian is a very dark and intense dramatic thriller about a married couple, played by Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer, who decide to take the transsiberian train from China to Moscow. I won't spoil it any more than that and will leave all further plot exploration up to you. Transsiberian first premiered at Sundance earlier this year, but I unfortunately missed it. I heard some good things about it and wanted to see it, but wasn't sure how it would play out. This trailer does a fine job of setting up the scenario and also showing us too much of what happens next, but alas that's what it needs in order for people to take an interest. Ben Kingsley, Kate Mara, and Thomas Kretschmann also star.
Our good friend Neil at Film School Rejects caught a screening of the film at Sundance and gave it a solid B rating. He called it gritty and intense, saying "Transsiberian is worth a look for anyone who enjoys deep drama, an engaging story and a relatable situation - if you have ever tried to traffic drugs through the middle of Russia, that is." Be sure to let us know what you think of the trailer.

Transsiberian is both written and directed by Brad Anderson, of Happy Accidents, Session 9, and The Machinist previously. The script was written by Anderson and newcomer Will Conroy. The film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by First Look Studios for distribution this summer. Transsiberian arrives in limited theaters starting on August 1st.

This looks pretty good. At first it had a Hostel feel in the train car.

I have to say… I was interested in this before I saw a trailer, but now that I've seen it, it just doesn't look that interesting. Perhaps closer to it coming out I may change my mind, but as of now… it's a big NO.

Hey I liked Session 9 and The Machinist and this looks pretty cool. Although the "American's in another country tricked into drug smuggling theme is kinda old and used." Still looks good.

Looks OKAY, Ben Kingsley usually kicks butt but not a huge Harrelson fan

Frankly, this looks like a too typical thriller (don't worry they'll get away!). Probably a two or two and a half star movie tops.

Looks good until the cheesy voice-over at the end.
