Check This Out: Daniel Craig's Defiance Poster
June 11, 2008
by Alex Billington
This poster isn't that impressive, but I'm giving Defiance another mention because it deserves it. When I caught The Fall at The Landmark in Los Angeles last weekend, I saw the trailer for this again on the big screen and damn does it look good. Defiance is about three Jewish brothers who escape from Poland in WWII and attempt to survive in the Belarussian forest with an entire village of people while defending from German attacks. Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell are the three brothers. Obviously Craig is the focus of the film, as is also apparent from the trailer. My appreciation for Edward Zwick also has me interested in this, but damn, it just looks so good! Take a look at the new teaser poster below.
If I have to make a bold statement, I would say that when it comes to upcoming WWII films, Defiance looks much better than Bryan Singer's Valkyrie. If you must do a quick comparison, take a look at both of the trailers: Defiance and Valkyrie. What are your thoughts?

Three Jewish brothers living in Nazi occupied Poland escape into the forest where they join up with Russian resistance fighters in battling the Nazis. Throughout the war they built a village inside the forest and saved the lives of more than 1200 other Jews.
Defiance is directed by Edward Zwick, of Legends of the Fall, Courage Under Fire, The Last Samurai, and Blood Diamond previously, and is written by Clayton Frohman, of The Delinquents and Checkered Flag. The film is based on a book of the same name by Nechama Tec. Defiance is being released by Paramount Vantage and arrives in theaters on December 12th later this year.

As mediocre as Ed Zwick's films are… I'm always ecstatic for high-profile Liev Schrieber.

I would have been far more excited for this if it weren't for the fake accents. I hate fake accents.

I like the fact that Zwick forces the actors to try accents in his movies - leo did a great job!! Nothing worse than a british accent for a nazi commander - i.e. Valkyrie.

I think Daniel Craig has a thing for playing kick ass Jews in movies. He already did it once in Munich, and again here in Defiance. All he needs is one more movie to complete his kick ass militant Jew trilogy.
