First Look: Gerard Butler in Lionsgate's Game

Although we actually visited the set of Game back in November and directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have already wrapped production and moved onto Crank 2, there is still no footage, no real photos, no poster, not even a release date yet. Eventually we will all be introduced to the next great action flick courtesy of the Crank guys, but until then, these two new photos will suffice. Game is intense new film that stars Gerard Butler as a prisoner named Kabel who is controlled by a player in a futuristic real world video game. I can't speak for the concept, but I can tell you the explosions and fights are going to be absolutely insane. Neveldine and Taylor just threw everything they had into this and it's like Crank, but with Gerard Butler wielding guns, blowing shit up, and hunting for bad guys in a futuristic wasteland.
Thanks to SlashFilm for unearthing these two new badass photos. At least we've finally got something good to look at while we wait for Lionsgate to actually release a trailer! Excited yet?

In the not too distant future, Kabel (Gerard Butler), a death row inmate, has unwittingly become a pop culture hero. Every week, millions worldwide tune in online to watch him and hundreds of other convicts battle in Slayers, an ultra-violent multi-player online game invented by technological genius Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). To the wealthy young gamer who controls his every move, Kable is just a sim character. To the resistance group that opposes Castle's games as high-tech slavery, he is a critical element in their battle to take down the inventor. Caught in the crosshairs of two opposing forces and under the command of a teenager's remote device, Kable must use his extraordinary fighting skills to escape the game, bring down Castle and overthrow the system.
Game is both written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the two genius filmmakers behind Crank and the upcoming Crank 2: High Voltage and Jonah Hex. The film was produced by Lakeshore Entertainment and is being distributed by Lionsgate. Game currently does not have an official release date set, but should arrive sometime in 2008.

That plot synopsis actually sounds pretty sick. I'm not sure how they're going to portray the concept of a 3rd person somehow "controlling" the movements and actions of a person in Slayers, but I look forward to seeing it done.
I'm just hypothesizing here, maybe there's like a remote device that will instantly kill the convict if they don't immediately follow what the "controller" tells them to do?

"written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the two genius filmmakers behind Crank"
Words cannot describe how false that statement is.

@ Brad
Word.
These guys are just hacks, and Crank wasn't even good…

You must be joking?! Calling them hacks is an understatement.
You've got a bad actor running around for 2 hours doing god awful and meaningless things for comedic and "thrilling" values that only 12 year olds (with their love for lowbrow entertainment) would enjoy! The ending sequence with him falling to his death was the best part of the film, and funnily enough the most dodgy and laughable.
"Genius" isn't a word that should be thrown around so easily. If your line of thinking is anything to go by Uwe Boll is a genius too for making a Postal movie.

Every time I ever get to see or hear my name attached to someone else, it's always a movie or comic book character. And they finally spelled it with a 'K'. Gerard Butler had better wear it well.

I suspect most of you weren't born yet so it's not your fault but the plot is basically, no exactly the same as "The Running Man" starring the current governor of California. Yes, children he made movies before Terminator 3.

That's the first thing that entered my mind & you're right on the money L'avenir. If you count Running Man, The Condemned & the soon opening Death Race, this could be considered the 4th installment. Don't get me wrong; I'm positive this will be infintely better than the aforementioned & I'll be keeping an eye out for updates. It also can't hurt to have THE MAN (Gerard Butler) starring in the film. That alone scores points

GAME is going to ROCK! I was fortunate to be the one chosen to shoot all of the Behind The Scenes on GAME and be beside, behind, and in front of the camera during the entire shoot, and it's going to be a high-speed roller coaster ride through fast action, huge explosions, wonderful characters and acting, special effects and sexy-sexy scenes (packed full of beautiful women)! Mark and Brian do everything BIG and over-the-top and Lakeshore Entertainment brought the best in the business to the project.
