Worth Watching - June 23: Russian War Film 'Admiral' Trailer

I stumbled across a great teaser trailer for a Russian film titled Admiral that I wanted to feature today. You might be surprised to discover that this an entirely Russian production, which amazes me because it looks impressive for something that isn't tainted by Hollywood. Admiral stars Konstantin Khabensky, of Night Watch / Day Watch, as Admiral Kolchak during the Russian Civil War. The film, to put it simply, is a story of a great love facing the greatest drama of the history of Russia. There's not much more I can say to prepare you for Admiral, except to warn you that the dialogue is in Russian without subtitles.
Watch the teaser trailer for Admiral:
Admiral is directed by Russian filmmaker Andrei Kravchuk, of the Berlin Film Festival hit The Italian previously. The film was written by Russian screenwriters Zoya Coudrie and Vladimir Valutsky. Admiral debuts in theaters in Russia and Eastern Europe starting in October of this year. 20th Century Fox has the international distribution rights to the film, but no American release date has been set.

Thats Russian Civil War, not WW2. Interestingly the main character appears to be a Tsarist/White Russian rather than a Bolshevik.

Looks very promising. Can't help but think of Doctor Zhivago a little bit with some of the snow scenes…although it's surely not going to touch that classic.
Thanks for posting it. Hopefully some studio will have enough sense to release it here in the USA…and I mean a WIDE release.
On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if it took until 2009 to see it here in the states. I mean if there is trouble in finding a distributor for RED CLIFF in the USA, then all bets are off.

It is nice to see a high production foreign film that does not feature a Bollywood wedding.

Though I greatly fear what 20thCF will do with the 3rd installment of the Night Watch Trilogy- I adore Konstantin and I am excited that they are bringing Russian cinema over to us.
Can't wait to see it!
