Tarantino Finishes Inglorious Bastards - Targets Cannes 2009

Last week we brought you the news that Quentin Tarantino's hotly anticipated next film, Inglorious Bastards, would not only be going into production later this year, but also that it's expected to be cut into two films ala Kill Bill. The good news keeps coming, because the BBC brings us word that Tarantino has actually finished the script and is eager to start pre-production and ultimately finish the WWII epic in just "11 months in time for next year's Cannes Film Festival." Tarantino goes on to explain to the BBC that this is more than just a typical WWII film, it's a "modern, in-your-face movie."
The news comes out of the Provincetown Film Festival where Tarantino received the fitting "Filmmaker on the Edge" award after his friend and fellow writer-director, John Waters, encouraged him to attend the event. Tarantino finished the script, inspired by 1967's Dirty Dozen, just before his trip to the Cape. "You're talking to a real happy dude right now," he told the BBC. He explains what encouraged him to finally finish. "What actually got me to sit down and put pen to paper was 'hey wouldn't it be fun to do a Dirty Dozen kind of thing?' It doesn't look anything like The Dirty Dozen [anymore]."
Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of period war pieces - something about the drab war gear and clunky weapons - so I'm really pleased with Tarantino's comments. "I don't want it to feel like a period film. I want it to feel current. I want it to feel right now. One of the things I have to battle against is 30 years of Nazi-occupation TV movies where we've all seen the big streets and the vintage cars and the Swastikas, and we've just seen that ad nauseum. This is a modern, in-your-face movie."
I can only imagine the type kind of insane sensibilities Tarantino will bring to this topic. And like Alex, I'm glad that Tarantino has written the characters first and will find suitable actors later. But I wonder who will be cast as the behind-enemy-lines convicts? The rumors have been pretty out there, ranging from Sylvester Stallone to Adam Sandler to Michael Madsen. I'm sure we'll be hearing more about Inglorious Bastards over the next few months, considering Tarantino's aggressive schedule. Tarantino's films are kind of hit and miss with me (Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction= awesome, Death Proof = wtf blood porn), but this sounds interesting, different than he has done before.

I looking forward to this movie ever since i heard about it…. Death proof is a AWESOME move with a AWESOME soundtrack with awesome dialogue…i will defend this movie

Im looking forward to this movie, sounds promising but im hoping there isn't a lot of dialogue dribble like in all his other movies that dont even move the story forward.
