Worth Watching - June 24: Zach Galifianakis' Visioneers Trailer

An extended trailer for comedian Zach Galifianakis' new independent comedy Visioneers has made its way online. Thanks to SlashFilm for first introducing me to this, because now my mind has been warped by Galifianakis. Visioneers is a very odd independent film about people exploding (not literally) from stress at their job with Jeffers Corp. Galifianakis plays George Washington Winsterhammerman and he tries to ignore the epidemic and live his usual life but soon suffers his own meltdown as well. There were a few times I laughed, but this is one of those films that I need to see in theaters to truly understand the context of each joke. Give it a shot, you might discover a true indie gem with Visioneers.
The film is currently playing at the CineVegas Film Festival and has received quite positive buzz, including the Audience Award at the fest and this positive review from Cinematical. "But even if it's not reinventing the wheel, Visioneers still manages to be insightful, intelligent, and melancholically funny."

For more info, you can check out the official website for the film here: visioneersthemovie.com.
Visioneers is directed by first-time filmmaker Jared Drake and written by his brother Brandon Drake. The film premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival in June but hasn't been picked up by a distributor yet. We can only hope that if it continues to receive positive buzz, someone will pick it up.

That's a long trailer, and I still don't know what it's about, and I don't care cause I want to find out.

I'm interested, I enjoy movies about people who hate their job/living situation and actually do something about it (or go crazy instead).

I saw this movie at Cinevegas and was one of the viewers that thought it was fantastic. I went expecting an interesting independent film effort but was not prepared by how good the whole movie was. It's actually quite a bit funnier than what the trailer made it out to be. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a good quirky comedy. I'm not going to name any quirky comedies to compare it to because they all failed horribly at the box office and I really don't want anyone to see the word "Visioneers" next to any of them. I would actually say that this movie has a slightly more universal appeal than them though and I'm hoping for the best.

This trailer looks to me like it's going to be brilliant. It comes off as a satire/spoof of "quirky indie comedies", the kind where every average-joe has to ACT!!! and FREAK OUT!!! and every scene of low-key dialogue is supposed to be off-beat and hilarious.
It's going to be the Wet Hot American Summer for the "Sleeper Indie Hit!" set instead of 80's Camp Movies. Not a direct Spoof for the most part, but something more odd that takes aim at those kinds of movies.

Now that was a long, confusing trailer. Not much there to arouse my interest to be honest. Me going to see this would come down to whether I trust the judgment of a drunk Vegas film festival crowd, and if I'm in desperate need of a Galifianakis fix. Maybe if a distributor does pick this up they'll craft a better trailer that might get some butts in the seats. I'll give this trailer an extra 2 points for the Judy Greer boob squeeze though.

This looks hilarious. I don't care what it's about, it would be perfect if it's about nothing because that's what we all do everyday anyway. And this guy is going nuts about it. Looks awesome. Very long preview, but it looks like a perfect Indie comedy that will probably get overlooked.
