Beautiful Japanese Poster for Fernando Meirelles' Blindness

When it comes to posters, I definitely have a different eye than everyone else (no pun intended). My list from last year really shook things up, but I like certain designs and don't like others. Courtesy of our friends at IMPAwards.com, we've got a beautiful Japanese poster for Fernando Meirelles' Blindness. This poster looks much better than the teaser poster that debuted earlier this year that looked like a cross between the Joker from The Dark Knight, a horror movie, and a doctor's office chart. If only they could tweak this into an American version and keep the same design, it would be hanging on my wall in an instant. Part of my attraction is my very high hopes for the film, which received a fairly positive review from Marco at Cannes.

This type of pixelation is nothing new, it's a design technique that's been used quite a bit. I just really like seeing it on this poster with the dissolving iris. I also just really like the subtle typography of the title Blindness. I'm just mesmerized by the poster and it's very simply but effective design.

Fernando Meirelles' Blindness

A doctor's wife becomes the only person with the ability to see in a town where everyone is struck with a mysterious case of sudden blindness. She feigns illness in order to take care of her husband as her surrounding community breaks down into chaos and disorder. I'm guessing there is a lot more to the story then what's written in that brief synopsis. However, I prefer to go into this completely blind and with as little knowledge as possible - I think there will be much more to take away from it going in that way.

Blindness is directed by legendary Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles of City of God and The Constant Gardener previously. The film is based on a novel by Nobel Prize winning author Jose Saramago with a script written by actor-writer Don McKellar, of Highway 61, Last Night, and The Red Violin. Blindness is currently set to open in theaters on September 19th. Make sure you watch the teaser trailer as well!

I was looking forward to this film, but I read a couple of not-so-good reviews recently. Still, I loved the book, so I'll give it a chance. My advice? Dude, Alex, find the book. I don't know how it translates into English, but it must still be a great weekend read. You still have four months before it opnes. DO IT.

This poster, I must say, is far from "beautiful."

It's a picture of an eye, with a Pixelate filter throwin over it in Photoshop.

I cant agree with you on this one Alex i think its to simple and the overall design is bad, they seemed to just have thrown it in photoshop and pixalated it. Not a big fan of teaser poster but i prefer it more then this one. Looking forward to the movie though should be good from all the good things I've heard,

Being someone who likes this sort of aesthetic (minimalism as well as pixel art) I pretty much have to like this poster. But come on, people. "It's just a photo of an eye with a pixelate filter on it". No shit? I would never have guessed…

It's a design thing fellas. Personally, I'd rather more posters were very simple like this than to see all of the 'floaty heads and explosions' posters that are out there.

I like this poster, sure gets attention in the theater among all the other dark posters out there.
