Matthew Fox Joins Adaptation of Oni Press' Billy Smoke
June 29, 2008
by Alex Billington
After kicking ass as Racer X in Speed Racer earlier this summer, Matthew Fox will go on to star in Billy Smoke, an adaptation of an upcoming comic being published by Oni Press. The story focuses on an elite hitman who is nearly killed during a job and realizes that his only way to find redemption is to rid the world of all assassins. After the success of Wanted this weekend, it sounds like Hollywood is interested in even more hitmen and assassins. The comic book series will first be published in 2009 and is written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Eric Kim. No director or writer has been announced yet, but the film is being produced by Warner Brothers and Oni's Eric Gitter.
Although this is probably the most bland news, without any writer, director, or even really a comic book, I'm glad to hear that Matthew Fox has finally been given a starring role. He was one of the best parts of Speed Racer, is awesome on "Lost", but needs a chance to really shine in a big budget studio flick. I can't say that I'm completely interested in seeing more hitmen and assassins, since Wanted really was a one hit wonder, I'm looking forward to seeing Fox take on that kind of character. Let's hope this isn't as bland as Hitmen from last year. Do you think Matthew Fox needs a big role to really take off?

any possibiblity of doing a hitman sequel. if they do, they should stick to the story line of the video game

If he wanted to take off, he would have done so three years ago. Actually, I think Fox has been smart in picking his roles. Smaller or secondary roles where he has more to work with and less to deal with. We tend to over saturate the market with our "leading men" and it's great to see another intelligent actor not use television only as a stepping stone to movies.

His brief appearance in Smokin' Aces with fellow Lostie Nestor Campbell was great. He needs to step out of the ensembles for a bit for something fresh.

This is excellent news. He was absolutely the best part about Speed Racer and fabulous on Lostl. Looking forward to see him as a leading man in a big budget movie.

This is depressing..the comic book isn't even a success and they are already planning a movie? Why not work bringing classics to life as opposed to trying to bring new things in every possible medium. Let me guess, they are probably shopping rights for the video game, and an animated television series, and also a prequel, and the obligatory 2 other movies to make it officially an epic. Also, the script is being leaked to the people who are going to write the 'assassin movie' a spoof on the bad movies about assassins…featuring product placement of every variety, and the obligatory pop culture references..

…
I personally think Matthew Fox needs to stick with TV…
Vantage Point sucked hard…
Speed Racer bombed at the box office…
Lost is his big success right now and I think he should stick with it…
either that or he should try smaller roles and work his way up in movies…
Big Roles are not they way to go in my opinion…

I think Fox deserves to star in at least one big movie, see how he does and go on from there. I really enjoyed Vantage Point even though it did get repetitive but loved how it all came together in the end. I completely missed Speed Racer (i really feel sorry for the movie for not being as big as it could have been) but im going to catch it when it comes out of DVD for sure. Fox is great is Lost and love the show, Fox is a great actor and deserves his time to shine. What really gets me is that the book hasn't even been released yet and there already making a movie.

I think Fox needs a chance. Racer X made the movie for me. And he does great on Lost of course. He certainly needs to get in there. I hope this is his big break.
