Stan Winston's Monster Squad Being Remade by Rob Cohen!

It's time for another Hollywood disaster. Apparently the classic 1987 horror fantasy Monster Squad is being remade. Guess who is producing it? Rob Cohen, of some of the worst movies of the decade, including The Skulls, xXx, and Stealth, is not directing, only producing (phew!). Oddly enough, Cohen was a producer on the original 1987 film as well as other 70's and 80's "classics" like Almost Summer, The Wiz, Light of Day, and so on. Anyway, considering Monster Squad is a staple amongst horror fanatics, I'm sure this is some pretty sad news. As classic as this film is, I definitely think it doesn't need to remade, which is the opposite of what I thought for Clash of the Titans - but that's a whole other story.
The original Monster Squad, directed by Fred Dekker, featured numerous classic monsters, including Frankenstein and Dracula that were designed by special effects maestro Stan Winston (rest in peace), amongst others. The film follows a group teenagers who must stop Dracula and his monster minions from taking over the world. The film is a cult classic and was re-released last year by Lionsgate as Two-Disc 20th Anniversary Edition DVD. Thanks to Bloody Disgusting, we've learned that Paramount has acquired the remake rights, with Rob Cohen producing. No details on when it will go into production, but I think it's safe to say that we're not looking forward to this one. Is anyone excited for this?

this still remains to be one of my favorite movies from when I was a kid and I bought the new DVD the day it came out…I don't really want to see it remade because of my love for the movie…
Why can't Hollywood start doing something original?

So, is this the revamp Universal was planning for all of their monsters or is this a seperate project??? Like, THE WOLFMAN is a seperate film now. But Paramount is doing it……????? I'm a little confused or is this just a whole other thing?

I really don't get why people find remakes so upsetting. It's like they believe their classic film is going to crumble into dust and cease to exist once the remake is made. It's won't. Neither are you obligated to go see the new film once it hits the cinemas.
