Zachary Quinto Briefly Talks Spock in Star Trek

Given that J.J. Abrams' Star Trek isn't stopping by Comic-Con this year, we've got to get our summer news fix from various actors as they speak on other projects. Zachary Quinto, who plays the legendary Spock, briefly spoke with SciFi recently and gave them an update on how he tackled the character in opposition from Leonard Nimoy. If you haven't seen it yet, you can check Quinto as Spock in the lower left corner of the brand new Comic-Con teaser poster here, as also seen in the photo above. Quinto has always been enthusiastic since the announcement of his involvement at Comic-Con last year. They wrapped filming at the end of April, but that doesn't mean he isn't anxious to talk about playing the stern Vulcan.
Quinto briefly talked about portraying the character and playing off of Nimoy's iconic Spock. It's not much, but it is an update that might be just enough to hold Star Trek fans over during Comic-Con this week.
"I really felt like my relationship to the character was specific to the text I was playing and to the world in which the character is being created right now, this time," Quinto told SciFi. "So I didn't feel beholden to Leonard, other than to honor the origins of what he created, obviously. But I think the whole project was based in that philosophy, so it wasn't a problem."
Additionally, Quinto chimes in on the beautiful teaser poster we mentioned earlier, saying that "it looks great." He adds that, "I think it's a really cool concept to bring them all together. I think the colors look really great. And, you know, I think it's a hearkening of what's to come… I think it's going to be really cool." He makes an interesting point talking about what's to come, possibly some foreshadowing, but I'm not even going to begin to speculate about the story. To jump back into this discussion, I think Quinto's the absolute perfect choice for Spock. Even out of all four of them featured on the poster, he's the only one who looks exactly like I imagined a young Spock would look like. And I can't wait to see him in action next May!
Star Trek is directed by J.J. Abrams (of "Lost" and Mission: Impossible III) and written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (of The Island, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers). The film is the 11th movie in the Star Trek universe. Star Trek arrives in theaters on May 8th, 2009.

They should just make Quinto's quarter of that new teaser poster the actual poster, since he's the only one on it who looks like you'd expect/hope. (What's with the Evil Kirk; are we having a "Mirror, Mirror" flashback in this new Trek flick?)
And maybe it's too early to say if J.J. Abrams is going to "Dark Knight" the hype on this one…

It's certainly better than hiring a guy just because he sounds like a spitting image of the old actor, like Brandon Routh from Superman Returns.
He does owe a little something to Leonard, though, or otherwise he wouldn't be donning pointy ears and boomerang eyebrows.
Will Nimoy somehow be in this movie? Even as Spock's father or something?
If they're taking the dramatic angle, the idea of one of the first taboo Vulcan Human couplings certainly will benefit, to add needed depth to Spock's character.
