Must Watch: First Trailer for Rian Johnson's Brothers Bloom
July 24, 2008
Source: Yahoo
by Alex Billington
Right smack in the middle of Comic-Con, Summit has decided to release the first trailer for Rian Johnson's second film - The Brothers Bloom. If you're not familiar with Rian Johnson, he's the guy who brought us the fantastic indie movie Brick a few years back. I'm not even sure what's going on in this, but this looks pretty wacky. Maybe that's a good thing? Johnson's Brick was "wacky" in a mainstream sense so maybe this trailer just wasn't capturing all of the finer points. Either way, I really hope this turns out great since I loved Brick and love the cast: Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel Weisz, and Rinko Kikuchi. And if you're not at Comic-Con and can decipher this trailer, please make sure to let us know. Otherwise, fire it up below and tell us if you think this will be even remotely as good as Brick or if Johnson is headed down the same troubled path as Richard Kelly.
Watch the first trailer for The Brothers Bloom:
The Brothers Bloom are the best con men in the world, swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Now they've decided to take on one last job - showing a beautiful and eccentric heiress the time of her life with a romantic adventure that takes them around the world.
The Brothers Bloom is both written and directed by young filmmaker Rian Johnson, of the 2006 hit indie gem Brick. Summit Entertainment is releasing Brothers Bloom on October 24th this fall.

Lousy trailer, but it looks like a good film. I love Brick as well as con movies, so I'm looking forward to this.

Who doesn't love a good con movie, it's like a heist movie but absurd.

I have my doubts, based on the trailer- I don't like the music, and the fonts used remind me of "the bank job"?!! Weisz can be better used….
I'll wait until a better trailer comes out to see if I'm in or not.

I think the film > the trailer

The trailer appears that it's not doing the justice to the complexity of the source material. It's almost as if it doesn't hint at what the film itself could be. I'm optimistic that this will be as fun and layed as Brick was.

Looks like a funny film, just bad trailer titles, too clean looking text and not enough texture.

I'm kind of in agreement with everyone on the trailer, but I am still super excited for this. Been waiting for a look at I. I loved Brick.

The movie looks like it could go wither way, but Johnson was smart enough to put in music by The Band. Consider my ticket bought.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Brick and I've been waiting for what seems like ages for johnson's second film. This film looks more upbeat than Brick.
OMG.
