Rain of Madness Keeps on Pouring - More Fun Viral Sites
July 26, 2008
by Kevin Powers
As Alex mentioned earlier this month, the upcoming Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder is getting the Apocalypse Now treatment by way of a "mockumentary" on the project ala Heart of Darkness. It's called Rain of Madness, and man is it a storm of great stuff. First we had the trailer for the faux film, and now there have been all kinds of updates to the project's hilarious official website as well. Paramount is taking some kickass steps to fill out an already seemingly hysterical film - namely, Thunder's lead characters are being positioned as real-world actors, complete with behind-the-scenes shots, background details and a full filmography. Read on for the latest updates on various viral sites to check out!
As of now, Rain of Madness has updated information (and damn clever marketing fluff) on Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller) and Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr). For Speedman, you can pop on over to his official website, which the actor (again, a fictional actor) describes himself as being "a really rad bridge that lets fans walk over all the mean stuff the internet says about me. Then at the other end of the bridge, is all the cool stuff dudes say!" Speedman's previous work includes Simple Jack and Scorcher VI, and his favorite charity is the Panda Relocation Foundation. What it must be like to come up with this stuff!
For Lazarus, you can learn about the pale Australian's controversial skin treatment, completed by the Make Pretty Skin Clinic, and his foray into acting; he was recruited by a pornographic filmmaker, Buzz Belton, whom Lazarus eventually stabbed, having said, "Look, if some claggy louse-about was trying to put his greasey's on your croc, you woulda shivvied him too." Lazarus' work includes Satan's Alley (which apparently also "starred" Tobey Maguire) and If You Could Hear What I See, for which he's won awards, including the Crying Monkey Award. I really want to put everything in this post, but you should definitely head on over to these sites and check out the material.
Honestly, I love all of this stuff! It's such a fun way to get back stories on the characters we'll see in Tropic Thunder next month. Not that this film needs it, however, which is what makes this material all the more valued. Paramount seems to be giving the fans a lot of stuff here. Sadly, none of the fictional movie sites contain full-fledged trailers, but we'll continue to keep an eye out for more. Enjoying this viral?

I saw the movie last week and it is the comedy event of the year. It's fall on your face funny, a lot better than Step Brothers and Pineapple Express. The audience didn't go a minute without screaming out in laughter… and there's a reason no full length fake trailers are on the website.
