Vampires and Zombies Oh My! Last Blood Comic Being Adapted
July 28, 2008
by Alex Billington
Hot off the heels of Comic-Con, production company Benderspink announces that they're adapting the horror comic Last Blood into a feature film. "Family Guy" executive producer and show regular David A. Goodman (of The Pavilion, "Enterprise", and "Family Guy" previously) has been hired to write the screenplay. The comic, created by Bobby Crosby and Chris Crosby, follows the human survivors of a zombie massacre who find themselves protected by a band of vampires who need their blood to survive. Sounds pretty sick and twisted, and obviously fun, to me! No details on who is expected to direct or even what studio this will end up at yet, but at least it sounds kind of exciting. Or is that just me?
Last Blood was first published by Blatant Comics is 2006 and is still currently publishing new issues. I did some research on the comic and apparently creator Bobby Crosby announced that they've been trying to develop an independent film based on the series since last year, but only recently moved it into production. They mention on the official website that the second graphic novel won't be out for another 18 to 24 months, so I'm guessing we won't be seeing this movie for at least another 18 to 24 months as well. You can also see some pages from the graphic novel over there and check out what he's referring to as some of the first concept art and opening scenes of the film. Although there isn't much yet, this project is quite intriguing, and Goodman will hopefully do a good job with the script. Excited for zombies and vampies?

You can read the comic online at: http://www.freewebs.com/lastbloodfaq/archive.htm. I read the whole thing about 6 months ago and it's pretty good albeit a bit simplistic at times.
