Exclusive Video: Choke Director Clark Gregg on Casting
July 30, 2008
by Alex Billington
Fox Searchlight has provided us exclusively with this video from the Q&As at the Los Angeles Film Festival for Choke. This is one of those indies that is poised to hit big and I've got a feeling it will. It's got incredibly passionate creative talent involved, one of the best independent studios distributing, and of course, the whimsical writing of Chuck Palahniuk. We've been provided one segment of answers during the Q&As where writer/director Clark Gregg answer a question about how he was able to get such actors like Sam Rockwell and Anjelica Huston and Kelly Macdonald on a "budget like this." We don't often get to see Q&As live so this is a rare opportunity to hear from Clark Gregg himself. Enjoy!
While you can watch the video exclusively here on FS.net below, it will eventually show up on the official website for Choke as well. Peter from SlashFilm has one of the other segments where Gregg and Palahniuk talk about the dream-like feel of the film. Be sure to check out Choke in theaters this fall!
Choke is both written and directed by first-time filmmaker and actor Clark Gregg. The film is an adaption of Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name. Choke premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and was bought by Fox Searchlight for around $5 million. The film currently arrives in theaters starting on September 26th this year.

I love Choke the novel, Clark Gregg (Sports Night!), and I'm excited to see this movie, but some of the images associated with the marketing campaign - like that top image of a woman's legs in his mouth - are awful. I know it's due to the character being portrayed, but I don't think it's necessary. Also, the whomever they hired to market the film sending out anal beads as promotion - C'MON. The scene in the book in which anal beads are a main player is one of those gag-inducing ones, and not exactly appealing.
I'm trying to disassociate the advertisements & campaign (save the trailer) so that I stay excited to see this film.
