Check This Out: Awesome New Gatchaman Concept Art

If you're a sci-fan in the least, you definitely need to stop and take a look. Imagi Animation's creative director Felix Ip has just released a few new concept art photos from the upcoming Gatchaman CGI film. We've mentioned this movie a couple of times before, but I can't seem to find any of the original concept art so I've added some of the older artwork below as well. Gatchaman is a sci-fi CGI movie being developed by the same studio that brought us TMNT. Originally, Kevin Munroe, who also directed the recent TMNT, was attached to direct Gatchaman, calling it "one of those [experiences] that was a big formative thing as a kid." However, at the moment, no director is attached and the project is still stuck in early development. Maybe these new concept art photos will start some buzz and push it back into production?
Gatchaman is based on a 1972 Japanese anime that was imported as a show called Battle of the Planets or G-Force. Best described as a sci-fi action anime, the series focused on five young superhero ninjas that dressed like birds and fought in space. These five superheroes worked for Dr. Kozaburo Nambu of the fictitious "International Science Organization" to oppose a group of technologically advanced villains, known as Galactor, from trying to take control of the earth's natural resources. Sounds like an intriguing concept to begin with and when you combine that with the concept art below, it all becomes quite exciting. As Munroe explained in an interview previously, "as much of a step as Turtles was, hopefully Gatchaman's going to be that much more. Like it's PG-13 CGI, and all CGI. It's going to be really… hardcore sci-fi."

Gatchaman does not currently have a director attached, however the film is in development at Imagi Animation. Kevin Munroe, of TMNT previously, as well as Paul Dini and Robert Mark Kamen, of The Fifth Element and The Transporter, all helped pen this adaptation. Warner Brothers will be releasing Gatchaman sometime in 2009 or 2010. Stay tuned for more updates on this film as we receive them!

I always thought this would be a cool idea. Ever watch some of the pre-rendered promotion trailers for new video games? Some of them are just awesome and you think they should make this into a full fledged film and story.

I'm not the artist of this poster, but I thought it was pretty cool and that you'd like to have a look at it. The two are probably not connected whatsoever, but it's still really interesting.

I didn't have a clue what this was as I read the topic. But then I saw the second to last picture and all these images flashed through my head. I definitely remember seeing that "costume" before. These look cool, but concept art always looks cool.
@ #3 - I saw it when it was up. It looked rather fake to me, so that may have been why it was removed. Or the video was taken off youtube so the topic had no more use being on the site.

Only those top two are new; the other ones (with the © 2007 date) are all from back when Kevin Munroe was still attached.

Aw man, I was hooked on Battle of the Planets (G-Force) every morning as a kid on L.A.'s channel 11.
I bought all the DVDs recently for the pure nostalgia - great anime. Then I hear Capcom is bringing the G-Force team into the Street Fighter series - I was like HOLY SHIT !!!! And now a CGI Film with someone who was involved with The Fifth Element ( another fave )? Dude, I just HOPE the CGI film works out very well. Looking forward to this and TRON 2, most definitely !
