Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Victorious With the MPAA!

The MPAA itself has announced today that Kevin Smith's upcoming Zack and Miri Make a Porno has successfully appealed the original NC-17 rating and been given an R rating instead! For those who don't remember, we reported in June that the MPAA had "singled out" Zack and Miri and was being a stickler with their flexibility. With "porno" in the title, this project has been labeled from the start as something that will push the boundaries of the acceptable (as all of Smith's movies do), but the MPAA still wasn't letting anything slide. Rogen complained that "a guy f—ing a donkey, they ain't got no problem with, but a man and a woman having sex they seem to have real issues with, for some weird reason. It's insane. It's completely insane." However, it's all been worked out - Zack and Miri got the R rating it needed!
Obviously Smith and The Weinstein Company gave themselves enough time to figure this ratings debacle out before the release date, so it's not like it wouldn't happen, it was all just a matter of time. However, this now will give Zack and Miri two more free months of marketing time before it hits theaters, so who knows what kind of goodies we'll get. I've heard from certain unnamed friends who have seen it that it is indeed hilarious - one of Kevin Smith's best films in recent years and I can't wait to see it myself. And the scenes that were giving the MPAA problems were apparently the funniest scenes in the movie - glad they're still there. Right now the movie is set to arrive on Halloween, October 31st, so if that date stays the same, we'll be bringing you concurrent coverage of Saw V and Zack and Miri - what a week that will be!
Until then, we'll be anxiously awaiting the first real trailer and whatever else the almighty Kevin Smith throws our way. Who else is excited for the debut of Kevin Smith's latest feature?

This movie will be–to use appropriately inappropriate terminology–orgasmically funny. I can't wait.
(I'm also stoked because of its Pittsburgh-ness! I live just a few miles from Monroeville!)

That first teaser trailer I thought was just about the funniest thing I've ever seen. If the whole movie is like that I'm sure it will be his best.

I think this will be Smith's most mainstream flick, but I have a strong feeling that this will perform like any other one of his films. Low $20M.
Also, it is in a really bad time. Three weeks before PORNO comes out 15 WIDE RELEASES open so it will really be struggling for screens and the week after it is released there is MADAGASCAR and QUANTUM.

Thank god! I just hope they didn't have to cut too much to score the R rating though…

Ryan, something tells me that ZACK & MIRI won't be competing with MADAGASCAR for the same audience.
More importantly, it opens on Halloween night, as the only comedy, against no other big films.
It's well positioned to do quite well. We shall see, however, if that happens.

You shout your mouth or I'm gonna fuck it…
Sorry, I had to.
I am greatly awaiting the release. The clips shown at comic-con were so fucking funny, my god. Superman is gay, hilarious.
If none of this makes any sense, well, too bad.

NO SURPISE here as there was no way the film could be released with an NC-17 and make any money. What ever had to be cut was probably cut to insure its R-rating. That's just good business at the end of the day!
