Peter Segal Lined Up to Direct Wardogs for MGM
August 10, 2008
by Alex Billington
If you're a reader of FS.net, you may know the name of Peter Segal because we've interviewed him twice. He directed Get Smart this summer and was an awesome guy to chat with. He's been talking about directing Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam for quite a while, but we learn today that he's also attached to direct an action-comedy pitch that just sold to MGM called Wardogs. Unfortunately, details on the story haven't been revealed just yet. However, if I had to make a guess, it sounds like a mix between Tropic Thunder, which is about to be a huge success this week, and Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards, which has an immense amount of early buzz. Segal is a comedy director and from the title alone, it sounds like something in the same vein as Tropic Thunder yet again. Hopefully I'm right!
Too add more speculation into the mix, both producers hinted at the plot: "It's an action ensemble comedy in the vein of Ocean's Eleven, where the casting becomes an event." I don't think they mean the actual story contains fake actors (like Tropic Thunder), but I'm not entirely sure. "It is a bunch of these terrific actors getting together and having a good time‚ it's that kind of thing." The script, which sold for a lofty $1 million, was written by both Ken Kaufman, of In the Army Now, Space Cowboys, The Missing, Curious George, and David Agosto, of Big Canyon. I guess the reason I'm so interested is because Segal is involved. Hopefully this is as good as I'm imagining! And I wonder what will come first - Shazam or Wardogs?

All of his movies are so unfunny. Get Smart wasn't funny at all. It was mostly an action movie.
