Tyrese Confirms a Role in A-Team Remake - But Which One? - Updated!
August 19, 2008

by Kevin Powers
Back in May we brought you news that Tyrese Gibson might step up and assume the mo-hawk, gold jewelry-wearing crown of '80s hero B.A. Baracus (originally played by Mr. T) in John Singleton's A-Team remake. Latino Review updates us today on that front with a eloquent quote from the former fashion model: "Soon as that script come back in and they tweak that thing out, we gonna go ahead and get movin'." I can just see Tyrese turning to Murdoch's character and retorting, "You crazy fool!," can't you? But I wouldn't count your gold chains just yet, according to Latino Review. The outlet draws a somewhat stretch conclusion from Tyrese's short comment on the subject - namely that since the actor didn't reiterate assuming Mr. T's role, he might actually play another character in the film. Does that rumor hold water? Maybe.
Tyrese certainly doesn't present the same degree of physical presence as Mr. T, which is a hallmark of the Baracus character, so I've wondered myself if he's the best guy for the role. Other candidates, such as the long-rumored Ice Cube and the somewhat fitting and oddly curious UFC title-winner Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, could be better choices at least physically speaking. What Tyrese definitely has going for him is his looks, which is why Latino Review speculates that perhaps he'll assume the role of Templeton "Faceman" Peck. If you recall, Faceman gets his name because of his good looks, which goes hand-in-hand with his philandering and conning - a real smooth operator, as they say. That can totally be Tyrese. And I guess if they can turn Candyman white, they can turn Faceman black - that's Hollywood for you.
We'll have to see how this speculation pans out. I like Tyrese, so whatever role he plays will be great. And for all we know, this A-Team remake may still never get the greenlight anyway, so for now we'll wait for more solid updates that hopefully will hit soon. Which character do you think he's best suited for?
UPDATE: As we thought, any speculation whether Tyrese would not assume the role of B.A. Baracus was bupkis. Those wily devils at MTV caught up with the actor who confirmed, "It’s B.A. Baracus. I haven’t officially signed on - everything is still on standby - but the conversations coming my way feel right. I’m gonna try to put my touch on [the character]. I mean, I got the muscles!”
As for whether or not Tyrese would don the mow-hawk and all, he said, "I think at the end of the day, you wanna take all the elements that work and take your hands on something new. I don’t think B.A. will be pissed if we decide to change it up a bit.” Sounds good to me!

Reciting a line of Mr. Gibson's via mocking his vernacular (sure his ghetto-laden linquistics may come off as uncolloquial, but consider his surroundings and how he grew up in the hood - his upbringing dictates his speech) and then ending it with a, "But i like Tyrese, so all that was aforementioned gets a pass."
Are you kidding me?
I don't know about racist, but more ignorant and condescending towards the actor. Maybe the author was attempting to be cute, but regardless of how it was delivered, the quote was absolutely unnecessary.
Not sure if the author went to journalism school or not, but i'm almost definite they don't teach you to plug in such snide commentary and expect it to be peaches and cream.
SMH.

So wait…Latino Review is spreading another rumor because of what somebody didn't say? Next what, are they going to say Lexi is off of Punisher 2 and it will be rated PG-13?
This is just speculation. Here I have some real speculation for you…a male will be the next President of the US. Damn I should get hired by Latino Review.

I would love to see Mr. T back as BA. Nobody else will be able to as good as a job as he can. I have Mr. T as the voice on my Tomtom GPS. I got it from Navtones.com and I love going for a drive having Mr. T telling me where to go. Bring back Mr. T!
