First Look: Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire

One of the films that is premiering this weekend at the Telluride Film Festival is Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, a Mumbai, India set romantic comedy. In honor of the "sneak preview" this weekend, we've got two first look photos from the film featuring Indian actor Dev Patel as 18-year-old Jamal Malik. The film is a comedy that follows the mysterious case of an Indian street orphan who wins the grand prize on the Hindi version of "Who Wants to be A Millionaire" in order to reconnect with a lost love - but was it all blind luck, or was he cheating? Danny Boyle directed Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, and Sunshine previously and is trying his hand at worldly comedy with Slumdog Millionaire next. Will it be another brilliant film?
I'll be catching an early screening at Telluride on Saturday night, so stay tuned for my reaction then. For now, take a look at the first two photos from Slumdog Millionaire and let us know if you're interested.
Slumdog Millionaire is directed by English filmmaker Danny Boyle, of Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine previously. The script was written by Englishman Simon Beaufoy, of The Full Monty and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day previously. The film will be premiering at the Telluride Film Festival this weekend and will be a co-release by Warner Brothers and Fox Searchlight. Slumdog Millionaire is currently set to arrive in limited theaters sometime in 2009.

I love directors that try to challenge themselves by jumping between different genres…it's really what seperates the one time film makers from the likes of Speilberg, Cameron, Scott, etc.
I'll definitely be seeing this…if he's good at action and horror then his take on a romantic comedy will be very interesting (and my girlfriend will be happy for the transition as well)

A bit more on Dev Patel; UK audiences will recognise him most as Anwar in teen dramedy TV show 'skins', he's British Indian as far as i'm concerned, having been born in London and he'll be able to carry the 'com' in this romcom easily.
Danny Boyle's done a romantic comedy already - 'A Life Less Ordinary' (1997) and a family comedy more recently - 'Millions' (2004) around all the bigger drugs and zombie stuff he's known for.
I reckon this'll be a nice laugh, btw.
Been reading FS for a little while, first time commenting tho'.

Comedy? I don't think so, it has at best one or two light hearted momemnts but it's really quite a harrowing film,. Brilliant though and great that it's received a bucket load of nominations and awards.
It deserves it, much kudos to Danny Boyle and the whole cast.
