John Lennon Biopic Titled Nowhere Boy Being Developed
August 29, 2008
by Alex Billington
Last year we saw I'm Not There, a biopic on Bob Dylan, as well as Control, a biopic on Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis. Newly in production this year is a biopic on Beatles singer John Lennon titled Nowhere Boy. Like Control before it, this film is being directed by a "visual artist" named Sam Taylor-Wood and will feature a script even written by Control screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh. The story will focus on Lennon's childhood and subsequent journey to Beatles fame. The script details "the story of Lennon as a lonely teenager growing up as his aunt and the mother who gave him up fight for his love. His only escape is music, art and his fateful friendship with Paul McCartney." Sounds potentially good.
Casting for Nowhere Boy is currently underway and the film will shoot on location in Lennon's hometown of Liverpool. Director Sam Taylor-Wood commented saying "the women in John's early life truly shaped who he became and the strengths and weaknesses of their relationships are central to this film." I'm concerned that this is going to be a mix of Control and Across the Universe, which really puts me on edge. Both films were quite bad and as much as I love the Beatles, it's hard to get interested in this kind of biopic when I have a feeling that it's going to end up like Control again. However, I'll reserve my judgment until I see some actual footage or hear more about it's direction. Any Beatles fans interested in this biopic?

Wow. Control was a great film. Maybe unique and different film making isn't your cup of tea? Anyways I would see any Beatles movie, good or bad. And if you don't feel the same, your not a Beatles fan, a true one at least.

Of course there are Beatles fans interested in this one!!!
I think is a great idea to see this side of John, because there are a lot - I mean A LOT of movies about John Lennon from the time he started The Beatles with his great partners to his awful dead. So it will be a great interest to see how John grew up, and how he became the great man we all have heard of.
I'm from Mexico, and I'm actually listening to a local radio station - Universal Stereo - with his legendary program, Beatles's hour (La hora de los Beatles), and the way the locutors say it, they will never pass out. So we'll be waiting to hear news about this.
Greetings from Mexico.

I think this sounds like a big mistake!! I am a huge beatles fan and from the description above it doesn't seem like it will be authentic to his true story. Maybe i am reading into this too much but if this movie is going to be made, it needs to be done right. Keep updating us on this alex, and keep up the good work.

i hope that this movie is able to capture the drama and how miserable john was while growing up…for those of us who have read enoguh beatles books and bios, i hope it meets our expectations…for those who don't really know much about him…i hope that after u see this film, will understand why he wrote the stuff he wrote and the way he wrote it, where he got his inspiration from…he was a very disturbed man with a fucked up childhood but with an incredible soul just wanting to love and be loved…
i really hope this movie does him justice….
if not, read, there;s plenty of sources out there…
peace!!

I saw Across the Universe and it got me to reestablish how much John Lennon and the Beatles meant to me learning about them. I saw a bit of The Killing of John Lennon and Chapter 27 and I felt extremely sad after those movie ended. The thing about it was John inspired me to write songs and play Guitar and if this movie is released, I will go to the first showing.
He may have been a Nowhere Boy, but throughout his life, he was a Someone Being.

erm, it's not all being shot on location in Liverpool actually. A lot of it is being done in Pinner and Harrow as we speak, it's all set up outside some of my friend's houses and my college.
It's pretty cool being this close to the making of the legend though ! aha
