Spike Lee's Inside Man 2 Moving Forward at Universal!
September 6, 2008
by Alex Billington
This has definitely been in the works for a while, but today it's officially confirmed. Spike Lee, who is visiting to Toronto to debut Miracle at St. Anna, confirmed that Inside Man 2 is moving forward at Universal. Terry George (of Hotel Rwanda and Reservation Road) is in negotiations to write the screenplay with Spike Lee planning to return as director as well. The sequel will pick up with the same characters and dynamic but not the same storyline, which is a bit confusing, but Lee seems to think it'll all work out as long as he gets a good script. "I want the script to be even better than Russell's, and Russell wrote a really good script [for Inside Man]." This could very well be one of the most anticipated upcoming sequels.
As we all know, Inside Man pit Clive Owen as a bank robber against Denzel Washington as a hostage negotiator. Inside Man 2 will continue the relationship between these two but "in a new high-tension situation." Apparently both Denzel and Clive are interested in returning for the sequel, but obviously haven't been confirmed given it's just now moving into pre-production. I remember hearing about the prospect of this sequel before and discussing how badass it would be to see Clive Owen return. That guy needs to do so much more work and Inside Man was one of my all-time favorite Clive Owen films anyway.
Considering the bank was the perfect location for the original film (you'll know what I mean if you've seen it), I'm curious to see where else they could set a robbery and how Lee will top himself this time. The ending reveal from Inside Man was quite unforgettable. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds awesome, loved Inside Man. I wonder if Clive Owen is still up for the trilogy for Shoot 'Em Up tho, because THAT was fun.

Eff yeah, but I still don't really know where the movie can go from where we left off. Wouldn't Denzel's character already know that Owen's character could bluff his way out of a prison? And would then be hyper alert to any shenanigans?
But then I guess that would be the hook?

Why? I thought Inside Man was such a great movie, but i dont see how they could make a sequel, in fact i dont think they should make one at all.

Inside Man was overrated; I like Denzel and I think he's awesome in any movie he does but I could see the ending coming a mile away in this one…. nobody else seen it coming?? Besides, Spike Lee is a tool. Anybody that tries to give Clint Eastwood shit needs their ass kicked.

i don't see how they could do a sequel unless it turns out to be the same two guys in a similar hostage situation like the previous one but only a different location from before but hey if they think they can do a sequel to 300 then i guess this one should be a cakewalk!

I think INSIDE MAN was a bit overrated but. Good, it sounds more like a prequel however, like maybe they were involved in the same thing again.
