Jason Statham Reveals Details About His Next Film, The Grabbers

Jason Statham is one of those actors that we can't get enough of, even in bad movies. Death Race is already out, so it's time to start thinking about what's coming up next. He's got Crank 2: High Voltage due out next year and Transporter 3 due out in October. However, Empire already got him to talk about his next project, one that he might shoot later this year, called The Grabbers. "We've got a movie we're trying to do, written by David and Janet Peoples, in the vein of an old film, The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre." A remake of an old 1948 classic? Not so much. "It's not a remake or anything. But it's a little bit like that – about relationships and how greed contaminates the relationships these three people have."
If you're unfamiliar with The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, or haven't seen it, it's a classic western written and directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart and Walter Huston. The two are prospectors who head down to Mexico in search of gold but lose their way when greed and bandits taint their interests. As for the two writers, David and Janet Peoples, they actualy wrote Twelve Monkeys together while David went on to help write Blade Runner and Unforgiven as well. Not too shabby of a filmography for both of them, which should be a good sign for this film. Let's just hope it actually comes together, since Statham makes it sound like it's in need of some support or else it'll disappear forever.
"Hopefully we'll get that made. We're trying to put the finance together now and hopefully do it before the end of the year." I hope so too, because I really like the sound of this, even though I haven't ever actually seen The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre, although I will soon. I know there are quite a few fans of it and it is a timeless classic, which is enough to convince me that the values within it are worth translating into a new film. The Grabbers really isn't an appealing title, especially if it's a western. In fact, that's a question Statham didn't really answer - is it a western or some other modern reinterpretation? Either way, this should be an interesting project to follow as it develops, especially with Statham involved.

"Jason Statham is one of those actors that we can't get enough of, even in bad movies" - stop with this constant man love!!!! - it's annoying, as a Brit we ain't that impressed with a two-dimensional actor.!

I wouldn't call Treasure of the Sierra Madre a Western. Don't get the Statham appeal either…to me he's just another bald meathead like Vin Diesel who makes really disposable, low-rent crap.

Hey, there's no need to stop being a lady now.
You seem like such an amazing person. Will you really be my dad, Yourdad?
Sincerely yours.

Dear Yourdad,
2000 years of evolution and that's the wittiest remark you can come up with 'go fuck yourself', do the rest of your family (particularly your bearded Mother) walk along dragging their knuckles too or is it just you, but, I suppose you being the bastard son of a homeless bum that your whore of a mother hooked of with when she was high on crack that time, would have affected you, we wouldn't be suprised if you looked a little in-bred too. Anyway, run along boy, I'm sure your mother has some old 'uncle' of yours waiting to molest you [for money of course].
