Finally, Story Details for Rian Johnson's Looper!
September 17, 2008
by Alex Billington
We already brought you almost all the early details anyone could ever want on Rian Johnson's next project, titled Looper, but today we've got a minor update with more information. As exciting as he made the sci-fi film sound in the original reveal, Johnson never mentioned what the actual story would be about. We did know that time travel was involved as a plot device, but that's about it. Hollywood Reporter's official announcement on the project today finally includes some brief details on the story: "Looper is set in a present-day world in which a group of hitmen are sent their victims from the future." This definitely sounds quite a bit better than I was initially expecting, that's for sure! Interested?
There were no other major details revealed that Johnson hadn't previously mention, which is a bit said. He did say that "the nice thing about doing a movie like this is that you can use the audience's expectations as part of the storytelling." In my Toronto Film Festival wrap-up from yesterday, I named Johnson's The Brothers Bloom as one of my runner-up favorites of the fest. The film has grown on me over time and the more and more I think about it, the more I realize that Johnson is a brilliant filmmaker who truly is breaking down genre rules. Being a big sci-fi nut, I'm incredibly excited to see Johnson take on that genre with Looper and I can't wait to see the extraordinary world he comes up with. Anyone else?

Yes, yes, yes. If Tugger is one of the hitmen, it'll be the greatest movie ever.
