Paramount Hires History of Violence Writer for One Shot

Paramount has hired screenwriter Josh Olson to adapt the book "One Shot" written by Lee Child. The story centers on a Dirty Harry-like homicide investigator who seeks the truth behind what seems like an open-and-shut murder case after a trained military sniper is arrested for shooting five random victims. Olson previously wrote the scripts for Instinct to Kill and A History of Violence, and is setup to write and direct an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's short story "Until Gwen." The project doesn't exactly have a producer, since it was originally supposed to be with Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner, but they since left the studio. This is an exciting story and should be a great film, let's just hope they find a great director for it.
The book has received some rather fantastic reviews on Amazon. "Reacher is perhaps the best new leading man of this decade: as smart as Nero Wolfe; as honest and personable as a Dick Francis hero; and as physically fit and resourceful as Arnold Schwarzenegger, with the type of will that enables him to break a bad guy's neck without a second of indecision. Second, Child has created a plot with such gripping suspense, we stayed up till 3 a.m. to finish this." Although I really wasn't fond of A History of Violence, I claim that's more the fault of William Hurt and director David Cronenberg than Olson's script. Anyway, I'm quite interested in hearing more about this and will follow any other announcements about it. Interested?

Excellent, I'm a big fan of Lee Child's work and his fictional creation Jack Reacher; I wonder who they're going to pick for the role. Thomas Jane might do it, but an unknown may be the way to go. I just hope they stay very faithful to the book, as it's a great read. That said, if you've not read the book yet, I'd wait for the film and then read the book, if you know what I mean.
