Thomas Dekker Joins Big Screen Fame Remake

From Hairspray to Mamma Mia to Fame. The next big musical headed to the big screen that's bound to be a big success is Fame, originally a 1980 musical conceived and produced by David De Silva. Thomas Dekker, from "Heroes" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", is the first big name actor to join the film, which is scheduled to start shooting in February for a late 2009 release. Dekker will play Marco, a working-class kid with some gnarly acting chops who is competing with thousands of other hopefuls to get into and survive an elite New York public high school for the arts. Any fans of the original film out there?
I'm a fan of some musicals and will probably give Fame a chance. The revamp is being produced by Mark Canton and Tom Rosenberg of Lakeshore Entertainment with a $25 million budget. The adaptation was written by Allison Burnett and will be directed by Kevin Tancharoen, an experienced choreographer and director who was worked on TV shows, music videos, and concert performances. I'm sure we can expect this to be full of energy and excitement, on top of a lot of singing. I'm not familiar with the original 1980 film, but I guess with High School Musical being such a huge success, Fame will probably play well, too.

Nearly as hyped for this as I am for Confessions of a Shopaholic.
I bet they make it 'dark', like Dark Knight 'dark', all the kids will be smoking crack and going crazy.

That's great, pick the perfect example of how the estrogen-ization of our food and environment have transformed a generation of human males into weak, gay-leaning, milktoasty, liberal mush-minded tiny testicled fawn-like delicate boy-things. Thomas Dekker is so glaringly wrong out of his element playing a guy role, well except as a weak, gay-leaning, milktoasty, liberal mush-minded tiny testicled fawn-like delicate boy-thing. there are moments in the original 'fame' i really enjoy - but overall it's junk. maybe one of the worst endings to a film ever. the film has a lot of problems, so i am not that upset about a remake, though i fear it will be too glitzy for it's own good and aimed at idiots who watch 'the hills.'
that said, i hope i am wrong b/c there's a really good musical movie in there waiting to be produced. so we'll see…

I didn't see FAME per se but I did catch ANYTHING FOR FAME the porno about the all girl dance troop using there special skills to get to nationals, and if this remake is anything like that one I'm there.

The original "Fame" was a very very good movie because they incorporated authentic characters you could identify with in this New York school of arts. I don't understand why a remake of

I have no place to judge since I haven't seen the original, but I do love Heroes and the Sarah Connor Chronicles, so I'll give it a shot.
