Jesse Eisenberg Jumps From Adventureland to Zombieland
October 6, 2008
by Alex Billington
Taking its cue from Shaun of the Dead, another buddy zombie comedy is in the works, titled Zombieland. This one will star Woody Harrelson and little known actor Jesse Eisenberg (who just finished Adventureland for Greg Mottola) as a pair of mismatched survivors who find friendship and redemption in a world overrun by zombies. Eisenberg is in negotiations to play Flagstaff, a terrified shut-in whose cowardice makes him an expert at surviving the zombies but who is forced out of his shell to join the band of survivors. First-time feature filmmaker Ruben Fleischer is directing a script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (creators of "The Joe Schmo Show") for Columbia Pictures to distribute.
Is it me or does there seem to be a key part of the plot missing? How does this zombie invasion happen? Or better yet, where does it take place? Globally? In a mall? In a small city? I need the answer to those questions before I can say whether this will even compete with Shaun of the Dead or not. Eisenberg is a fantastic actor, and Harrelson showed us he's still damn good at comedy in Semi-Pro earlier this year, but its up to the director and the screenwriters to turn this into something amazing. And speaking of director Ruben Fleischer, Peter over at SlashFilm has compiled a great collection of his short films if you're interested in seeing his past work. Otherwise, I'll be very keen on hearing more about this.

Interesting…after seeing Harrelson in The Battle in Seattle this weekend I'm wondering if he can pull off a zombie movie…
I can't think of any film he's been involved in recently that was based in fiction and wasn't realism so I'm curious if he can react to made up situations as eloquently as he responds to real life scenarios.
He's a great actor though so I'm sure he won't have any problems.

I am loving this sort of… zombie revival.
Woody Harrelson is a good actor. I would never have imagined him being in a zombie flick, but I won't judge the ramifications until I see the polished product.
