Romero's The Crazies Being Remade by Breck Eisner

Yet another remake has been greenlit. This time they're revisiting old school George Romero - The Crazies, a 1973 thriller about a virus that overtakes a small Kansas town and causes the locals to go insane, is being remade by Overture Films. Breck Eisner, of Sahara and the upcoming Flash Gordon remake, has been hired to direct from a script written by Ray Wright (Pulse) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror). This was originally setup at Rogue Pictures and Paramount, but its since been handed down to Overture. Exec Chris McGurk explains, "we've been trying to move into horror fare that is clever and smart."
Production is set to begin early next year with George Romero himself executive producing. We've heard rumblings of this remake before, but all the details have finally been confirmed. I'm not going to say that Breck Eisner is a good director by any means, but he does still have a chance to prove that he is indeed talented. Not only does he have this remake, but he's also directing remakes of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Flash Gordon. He better have a very distinct directing style or else these are going to quickly be forgotten. Although I do think the concept for The Crazies is still interesting today as well.

i loved all the info on this until i got to the part where one of the screenwriters is from Pulse. That movie was every kinda bad except for funny bad.

Sahara had the right bit of style, but was weak around the editing room, so Breck isn't a bad director. Now those writers worry me. Two very terrible movies they have there.

remakes don't shock me anymore. I expect everything to be remade.

"Although I do think the concept for The Crazies is still interesting today as well." Problem with this remake is that younger audiences won't remember the original and think its a rip-off of 28 Days Later.

I never saw the original but have heard of it. If I like Romero's earlier living dead movies, will I like the Crazies? Anyone?
