Matz's French Graphic Novel 'Headshot' Being Adapted
October 15, 2008
by Alex Billington
Warner Brothers has acquired the big screen rights to Alexis Nolent's (aka Matz's) graphic novel series titled Headshot first published in 2004. In French, the comic is known as Du plomb dans la tête which roughly translates to Lead in the Head. Screenwriter Alessandro Camon (of The Bandit K and the upcoming Chancellor Manuscript) has been hired to write the adaptation. The story follows an unlikely alliance that is made between a cop and a hitman once each watches his partner die. They in turn seek revenge and discover they have a shared enemy and much in common despite being on opposite sides of the law.
As far as I can tell, Matz is essentially to France what someone like Frank Miller or Mark Millar is to us here in America. This isn't the first time one of his comics has been picked up in Hollywood - Warner Brothers is also developing the sci-fi series Cyclops and Paramount had picked up The Killer for David Fincher to direct. Even just looking at the basic idea of Headshot, as described above, I'm already very interested, and I think that's a testament to the kind of work Matz does. I'll be very curious to see who they pick up as a director and I'll be anxious to follow this, since it sounds like it has the potential to be pretty good.
For more information on the comic, head over to the French publisher's official website. Sadly we haven't actually seen any of Matz's previous adaptations hit theaters just yet, which is something I'm patiently waiting to see happen soon. I truly hope his graphic novels translate well to the big screen!
