McG Planning to Reinvent the Spy Genre with Dead Spy Running

McG

From Terminator to spies, McG has signed on to direct an adaptation of a spy novel titled "Dead Spy Running" written by British author Jon Stock. The book won't be published until next year meaning details surrounding the actual story still haven't been revealed. However, "Dead Spy Running" is only the first of a trilogy that is aiming to reinvent the spy genre. The story follows the origin of a newly trained spy in a tone that mixes The Bourne Identity with the writing of author John le Carré. McG is currently only set to direct the first film, although Warner Brothers is hoping to turn this into a successful franchise.

I've really got nothing against McG and his funny little name, but I'm not a fan of either Charlie's Angels movies. So I'm not entirely confident that McG is as crafty as Paul Greengrass, but I hope that all changes after Terminator Salvation. As interesting as this "Dead Spy Running" novel sounds, I'm also not sure if it has the goods it needs to stand up to Bourne. I hate to say what we're all thinking, but Jason Bourne is now the reference point for good spy movies, at least for projects like this that go as far as to even reference Bourne in their description. I'll be waiting to see Terminator Salvation before I say any more.

He has to prove himself with T4, first.
The rumors don't sound encouraging.
