Seth Green Looking to Direct Freshmen Adaptation

Remarkably, actor Seth Green is still out there, starring in the occasional comedy, writing the ocassional comic book, and churning out new episodes of "Robot Chicken" and "Family Guy." Now he's going to finally take the next step into directing and plans to adapt his own comic book Freshmen that he co-started with Hugh Sterbakov. Published by Top Cow, the comic book is described as "Revenge of the Nerds meets X-Men" and is about the adventures of 14 college freshman outcasts who gain extraordinary powers in an "ax-cell-erator" explosion and decide to become superheroes. Green told Moviehole recently that "we conceived [Freshmen] as a feature" and "that'll be the movie that I direct." Sound like a good idea?
Green elaborated on the story a bit further. "It's kids in their first year of college, their first days of college, leaving the nest for the first time, awkwardly discovering their own identifies, trying to cast off all the things that have been placed on them throughout their scholastic career, and define their own identity in college." After being put into temporary housing in the science building, they end up with "borderline useless superpowers. So now in addition to being these outcasts of the outcasts, they are additionally alienated, with a physical deformity." Sounds a bit sad, but they later get convinced to become superheroes and presumably kick some ass. Both volumes of Freshmen can be picked up from Amazon.
The adaptation is currently being written and Green assures us that it'll be made "when it's ready," although he'll need the support of a studio. "My estimation is to make this movie the way we want to make it, we'll need independent financing. But the nice thing about independent financing is — a small-budget film is $35 million these days. And that's about what we'd need to make it." Sounds like it could be a fun little flick, although I'm worried it'll be turned into the next PG-13 cheesy college comedy, which is not what I want to see. Yet again, this is one of those comics that I haven't heard much about, so I can't speak for the source material. I can voice my concern about Seth Green directing a movie though! Thoughts?

this will be the greatest adaptation ever. forget every other comic-book movie. this will be the best.

I put Seth Green in the same category as Kevin Smith and therefore trust him completely with this subject matter. He is a comic book and film geek at heart and won't stray in the wrong direction on this (especially since it's being independently financed).
Looks similar to Kick Ass though so I'm not sure how that will play out.

If he wrote the source material AND he's directing it, how can he possibly stray away? Unless he got hit against the head a few days before shooting.
I hope the people the main characters are based on will star on the movie… I think the girl in the poster is Mila Kunis. Don't remember all the details for sure.

Why's that Alex ? I find Robot Chicken to be one of the cleverest and funniest things I've seen. I liked him back when he was an angtsy werewolf and I like him more now, I'm keen to see what he can do.
I've not read this or Kick Ass, but I do agree with Peloquin, first superficial impressions are very similar.

Well, this sounds interesting.
I love Kick-Ass but, I have to agree, this sounds a lot like it. I hope they don't completely screw each other over…
Dr.Duvel - I completely agree. Seth has really been great since he was in Buffy to now and I'm also interested to see what he can do with this. Hell, maybe he'll even continue in this direction and make some more.
Altogether, I'm fascinated by this and I hope that it'll be good and welcomed into open arms. I'd hate to see this crash just as much as I'd hate to Kick-Ass crash.

I haven't read Volume 2 yet, but I LOVED Volume 1!
Wannabe and Quaker were my favorite characters, I wonder who'd play them?
It could make such a good movie, especially with its creator Green in the director's chair.

It is her. The character's name is Puppeteer, Green said that he based her physical appearance off Mila Kunis, with her permission.
