J.K. Simmons and Chris Messina Join An Invisible Sign of My Own

Marilyn Agrelo's indie project An Invisible Sign of My Own has gained two more great actors: J.K. Simmons and Chris Messina. The two will star alongside of Jessica Alba in a "whimsical fable" that follows the transformation of a sheltered, math-obsessed teacher when a new science teacher arrives at her school. I'm guessing that Alba will be play the math teacher and Messina potentially the science teacher. It's described as an Amelie-style film, for those looking for something interesting to grasp onto with this project. The screenplay was written by writing duo Pam Falk and Mike Ellis (of The Wedding Planner) and is an adaptation of Aimee Bender's book of the same name. I guess this should be interesting?
I'm not the biggest fan of Jessica Alba, but I think she really needs some strong indie roles in order to improve her acting. Hopefully this is a movie that I can expect to see at either Sundance or SXSW or Toronto next year. The book seems very feminine, with reviewers on Amazon saying that the "novel has a weighty sadness" and that it "turns obsession and compulsion into a moving story." In relation to the movie, I usually enjoy anything Simmons does and Messina did a fairly good job in Vicky Cristina Barcelona this year and was fantastic in a little indie movie called Ira and Abby from last year. So I'll hope for the best with An Invisible Sign of My Own and hope that Alba has finally improved her acting chops.

Aimee Bender is a fairly talented writer. It's a shame that they got someone as bland as Jessica Alba for a movie that could have been pretty good.

i reckon alba's pretty good in a light role,though i would've prefered jan aniston.
