Natalie Portman Starring in Love and Other Impossible Pursuits
October 28, 2008
by Alex Billington
Indie drama Love and Other Impossible Pursuits has picked up actress Natalie Portman in addition to Scott Cohen and Charlie Tahan. The script is based on Ayelet Waldman's novel of the same name and was written by Don Roos, who is also directing the film. The story revolves around a young woman who finds the key to recovering her marriage in her relationship with her precocious stepson. Jennifer Lopez was initially attached to star in the same role as Portman, but she dropped out and Portman came in to save the day, giving the project the last bit of extra emphasis that it needed to finally get off the ground.
"How a five-year-old manages to make the adults in his life hew to the love he holds for them is the sweet treat in this honest, brutal, bitterly funny slice of life." It sounds like a very sweet and charming project. I'm interested more in seeing Natalie Portman finally take on another strong indie role, given its been years since we last saw her in anything really good. Unfortunately auteur Don Roos doesn't exactly have an impressive filmography: The Opposite of Sex, Bounce, and Happy Endings, three films I've never heard of before. Hopefully I'll come across this at a film festival and be treated to something wonderful.

Indeed. (You could have just left it at "I'm interested more in seeing Natalie Portman" though.)

No doubt! How does she just keep…. getting…. hotter?! Apologies for the boyish/delinquent, out of character comment. Natalie's been known to have that effect though. Harvard graduate, Cannes festival juror… just… wow.

Seriously Alex, you've never heard of "The Opposite of Sex" with Christina Ricci, "Bounce" with Affleck and Paltrow or "Happy Endings"??? really??? I mean none of them were major marketed movies, but at least the first two, I am VERY surprised you've at least never heard of them.
