Marc Webb Helming Age of Rage for Fox Searchlight
October 30, 2008
by Alex Billington
Music video director Marc Webb (seen above), who is making his directorial debut next year with 500 Days of Summer, has signed again with Fox Searchlight to develop a project called Age of Rage. Webb is negotiating to direct and potentially write the film, which has a story that combines elements of Children of Men and Lord of the Flies. No other plot details have been revealed, leaving quite a bit to our imagination. Considering Peter from SlashFilm makes a great point about the overuse of Children of Men comparisons, this probably has nothing to do with that film besides being set in some sort of dystopian future.
Everyone probably knows that Fox Searchlight is my favorite indie studio that always supports great projects. I've heard that Webb's 500 Days of Summer is wonderful, which is why I'm also interested in seeing what he can do in a dystopian future, but alas, I need more story details before I can say much else about Age of Rage. I'm also not a big fan of directors who got their start in music videos, which Webb is one of. But then again, his work so far isn't terrible. You can see some of his videos over on MTV. And stay tuned for a lot more on Marc Webb next year when he'll finally get his big screen debut.
