Updated Details on Nick Frost and Simon Pegg's Paul
November 12, 2008
by Alex Billington
We actually confirmed back in August that Greg Mottola, of Superbad and the upcoming Adventureland, was directing Nick Frost and Simon Pegg's next film titled Paul. At the time, we only knew that it was a road movie about two British comic book geeks that get into an adventure across America. Now Variety chimes in with an update on the production and gives us a much more exciting synopsis. The story actually focuses on two British slackers who, after visiting Comic-Con, go on a road trip to Area 51, where they encounter a small alien named Paul, who enlists them to help him find his way home.
"Greg is a big fan of Nick and Simon's. He loved the concept," explained producer Eric Fellner. While Mottola is directing, Edgar Wright, the man behind Nick and Simon's first two hits, will be executive producing. The film is currently slated to start shooting mid-April in New Mexico. I'm curious if this means we'll see them shooting at Comic-Con in July. Whatever the case may be, I love this idea, even if it's got that quirky tinge of sci-fi. A movie about two comic book geeks played by two real comic book geeks? What more could you ask for! I really can't wait to see more of this once they start shooting. Sound good?

Oh, btw. All their films are funny and this will be no exception. It's a pitch which has comedy goldmine potential.
