New Regency Will Venture to The End of Eternity

Yet another brilliant Isaac Asimov story is headed to the big screen. New Regency has acquired the rights to Asimov's "The End of Eternity", a sci-fi time travel novel first published in 1955. The studio is looking to find a director who is interested in the project first, before looking for a writer. The fascinating story tells of a future where humanity is controlled by a ruling class called Eternity. Those who are in that class can manipulate time in order to alter history and prevent disasters or "wipe out undesirables." One of the Eternity members breaks the cardinal rule and falls in love with a woman from another time period. I'm a big fan of any Asimov's books and I'm already quite excited to see this time travel tale come to life.
Previous Asimov stories that have hit the big screen include Bicentennial Man and I, Robot, with a project called Foundation in development at Warner Brothers as well. Everyone knows I'm a big sci-fi fan and I already love the sound of this story without getting into the juicer details. Obviously it will take a very, very capable creative team to pull this. Apparently Ridley Scott and Tom Cruise were even considering making it at one point, but eventually they passed on it. It seem like a fantastic concept with a lot of potential, it just has to be harnessed and contained within a great script for a visionary direct to shoot. The book has been out of print for years, however, you can find a few used copies on Amazon. Thoughts on Asimov?

There was a film made in the 80s' exactly like this. I think it was called time shift or sometihng. It was out around the same time as Time bandits or a few years after.

So… can we expect the story to deviate a lot from the original books, like Bicentennial Man and I, Robot?

Yeah @ Luis…I was thinking the same thing. They'll throw Will Smith, his snot-faced kid and half the idiots from the Judd Apatow flicks in it and make it NOTHING like the book.
Better calm down Alex. It's just going to be another crapfest disappointment.
Or…it could be better than that. I don't want to be negative. =)

i always thought this would be an awesome movie. i read it years ago, and I don't even think it's in print. The only problem with this story is that it is kind of subtle, and hollywood doesn't seem to speak subtle very well.
