Seth Gordon Directing Con Man Flick Suicide Squad
November 18, 2008
by Alex Billington
We just finished up an interview with Seth Gordon the other day and ran an update yesterday on The King of Kong remake he's directing. As we said in that article, Gordon is definitely on the rise. In addition to that Kong remake, he's already got another couple projects lined up. One of them announced today is Suicide Squad, about a desperate con man, out on the latest of many paroles, who recruits a crew of amateur criminals to rip off the Kentucky Derby. The script was written by brothers Matt Eddy and Billy Eddy, who are new to the writing scene. I always love a good con movie and Suicide Squad sounds great.
Gordon seems to be fairly well established at New Line, where his King of Kong doc was picked up and Four Christmases was made. However, Suicide Squad is a Working Title Films production setup at Universal. The concept sounds great, like an even more comedic version of Ocean's Eleven, which is one of my personal all-time favorites. Even though I wasn't fond of Four Christmases, I actually think Gordon is a very capable director who can definitely make some good films in the future, as long as they're not just paycheck jobs. We'll be waiting to see who they cast in Suicide Squad. Sound interesting to you?
