Justin Theroux Delivers a Minor Iron Man 2 Script Update

By now I'm sure we're all familiar with every last detail surrounding Iron Man 2, including that Marvel hired Justin Theroux (seen above) to write the script this time around. Theroux got the job coming off of Tropic Thunder; he used to be an actor and only turned to writing recently, making his impressive debut with Tropic Thunder. UGO caught up with Theroux recently and while he didn't give much of an update, he at least mentioned some interesting things regarding his work on Iron Man 2, the role of Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes in the sequels, and his considerations surrounding The Avengers movie as well.
Theroux explains that they've only finished a first draft. "I just got back from London where I was working with Robert [Downey Jr.] and Kevin Feige… We were talking with Robert, who's out there doing Sherlock Holmes — he was giving his input and his notes." When asked about the role of Rhodey being cut down because of Marvel's decision to switch out Terrence Howard, he said that it's "all nonsense." Theroux continues: "We're writing the thing virtually the same for Rhodey that we would for any actor. We're really [writing] what's going to be the most interesting story for the fans and [something they are] going to enjoy watching. And whoever's in that part is going to have to play that part and make it work."
As for The Avengers, UGO asked Theroux if he felt any pressure from Marvel to include anything to lead into that movie. "No… they haven't given us any instruction as far as we want you to do this or we want you to do that." He hints that "there's a couple little things that we've been working on, but it's not that we've been taking meetings with Avengers people. It's not like we're six screenwriters sitting in a room from each movie and thinking about how we're gonna work on each other's things." Which is great to hear, because that would've resulted in a big mess. For more from Justin Theroux on Iron Man 2, head over to UGO.

Just like any comedic film, some jokes were great, some fell flat. Deal with it.
I always liked Theroux as an actor though. The filmmaker in Mulholland Drive and Timothy Bryce in American Psycho. "Sorry dude…steriods. HGHH!!!"

Tropic Thunder was not by any means an impressive movie, it was a fucked up waste of time. Stop calling it an impressive movie.

Really? Tropic Thunder sucked?
Not for nothing, but everyone I know that saw the movie thought it was hilarious.
but anyways, comedy is harder than drama. Its easier to make people care and feel than it is to laugh. Any writer can tell you that.

Good work # 10. Could not agree with you more….this at the least is disturbing news. I saw TT for Downey, and had to swallow my pride in regards to Stiller and cringed with horror everytime he was in frame. Horrible. So now we have a weak link in regards to story. Can the direction save IM 2? Will the acting? What a disapointment.
