Pascal Laugier Helming Details for Paramount Vantage
November 24, 2008
by Alex Billington
The last we heard from French director Pascal Laugier (pictured above) was that he was potentially attached to direct the Weinstein Company's Hellraiser remake. However, it seems that gig may not exactly be his next, as it was announced today that Laugier will direct a horror thriller for Paramount Vantage titled Details. Laugier, of the highly praised French horror film Martyrs most recently, will write and direct the adaptation, which is based on a short story by China MiƩville. The film centers on a daughter who disappears after awakening supernatural forces that inhabit the random patterns of everyday objects.
According to reports, Laugier is still attached to direct the Hellraiser remake. But with the Weinstein Company on the ropes, it's likely that Laugier will shoot Details before he gets back to Hellraiser. Both seem like very intriguing projects for the French filmmaker, although I'm personally much more interested in Details than I am in seeing Clive Barker's masterpiece mutilated by Hollywood. Martyrs won't be out on DVD until next year, so I still haven't had a chance to see it and get an idea of what Laugier is all about. We'll keep our eye on both projects and will be sure to let you know about any updates we hear.

For the love of all things holy, why don't they just scrap the whole idea of remaking Hellraiser? They've already shown that they don't care about this project, the anniversary has passed and I don't feel like their heart is in it, mine sure isn't.
