Must Watch: Captain Kirk's Response to the Star Trek Trailer
November 25, 2008
by Alex Billington
What better way to brighten up this week than a little bit of comedy? In this hilarious video, the old Captain Kirk, aka William Shatner, flips out when he sees himself in the new Star Trek trailer. Thanks to TV Tréquer on YouTube for whipping this together. We usually don't feature video likes this, but I just had to run it today, primarily because there's a lack of worthwhile news and also because it's downright hilarious. I'm loving all this classic Trek being dug up due to newfound interest in the franchise, even though not everyone is as excited as I am for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. Just check this video out!
This is definitely only the very first of many hilarious Star Trek videos that we'll see over the next year. I'm sure by the time we get to May, we'll have seen hundreds of funny videos like this. I really love watching all these throwbacks to Shatner and the original Trek. I've haven't actually seen a lot of the episodes of "The Original Series" so it's even more ridiculous to see things like this without knowing it existed before. Shatner really acted that way in an episode?! You've got to be kidding me! All this does is make me even more excited for the new Star Trek! If we come across anything else this good, we'll let you know!

Yep he did.. Shanter had some crazy moments.. I'm soooo glad they don't have him starring in the new one he probably would have acted the same way in the movie (and maybe off set too)

HA! Freaking sweet!
Though in context, Kirk in that episode, THE ENEMY WITHIN, was supposed to be a fractured id personality, nutso and manic depressive. He was two people instead of one, due to a transporter malfunction. One (the "good" one) was rational, introspective and indecisive. The other (the "evil" one), the one we see here, was irrational, paranoid and cowardly. Kirk's bravery, decisive behavior, and other good traits could only manifest by a combination of the two and both had to be sent back into the transporter to become the one Kirk. In the 1960s, paranoid cowards wore eyeliner and would sweat a lot - apparently.
And in that scene from THE WRATH OF KHAN, Kirk was trying to vocally convince Khan that he was defeated. It was a trick on Kirk's part to dupe Khan into making a mistake - and it worked.
So that's why Kirk is over the top in those two scenes and… and… I'm sorry, there's still more pig but I've run out of lipstick.

Feo is a fucking nerd. I don't remember anyone asking for an explanation of the actual episode, nor of Khan.

A good friend acted with Bill Shatner on a TV program back in the late '50s or early '60s. (Obviously, not on Star Trek.) Her comment on his thespian skills? "He was not acting. He was simply answering to a different name."
