Must Watch: First Trailer for Tony Gilroy's Duplicity
November 25, 2008
Source: Apple
by Alex Billington
The moment I stepped out of Michael Clayton awe-struck last year, I knew that Tony Gilroy was one hell of an up-and-coming director. If you can believe it, Clayton was actually his directorial debut. His follow up is a con thriller named Duplicity starring Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, Julia Roberts, and Tom Wilkinson. Universal has debuted the first trailer and damn does it look like one hell of great con film the likes of Ocean's Eleven. Gilroy has a brilliant way of portraying the sleek side of corporations that I just love. As was the case with Michael Clayton, it took a few views of this trailer to fully understand what's going on.

Duplicity is both written and directed by Tony Gilroy, a long-time writer of scripts like The Devil's Advocate, Proof of Life and all three of the Bourne films, who made his directorial debut with Michael Clayton last year. Universal will be debuting Duplicity in theaters everywhere on March 20th.

I think I'm one of few people that misses Julia Roberts in roles like this. I think her and Clive together is going to be awesome. Throw in Giamatti and Wilkinson, and this looks like a great great movie with Gilroy behind the lens…

For those that remember this is not the first time those two have been together. Remember "Closer"
And also a second time for Giamatti and Owen.

the trailer put too much emphasis on the actors rather on the story, probably the movie too.

If the people that made this movie were also part of "Michael Clayton," then fuck that shit, pass.

Julia Roberts and her whole impersonation of herself played a big part in killing Ocean's 12 for me (even aside from the meandering, ridiculous story and emphasis on sight-seeing over storyline). I trust Owen and Giamatti…but I also trusted Pitt and Clooney.

It looks great, Michael Clayton was my favorite film of last year, Gilroy is a thriller genius, Clayton, Bourne films and now this.

Ok…I totally did not get Michael Clayton. I mean, I got it but I just didn't see what was that great. I mean it was great but just not among the top five of last year for me. Anyway, this movie looks really interesting, much more personality than Michael Clayton, a little lighthearted at times but—who am I kidding??? Clive Owen looks absolutely breathtaking in this!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!! I'm there! First in line!

what was so great about michael clayton? it was average at best and clooney is over-rated as an actor. while this has a great cast; i need to see more to get really interested.

Excuse me Clive, if thats your real name WE know who you really are Samuel Richardson the Third. We saw the egg in your room. Let us assure you wouldn't get away with this and the police will hear from us. Nora is a crabby old woman but you still shouldn't take your anger out on her we suggest some counciling and not trying to play baby pretend and act like your some sort of bigshot spy. FYI if you keep up this embezzling unblissfuliness crueluity intendtions you will see from my lawyer. And we also know about your gambling problems.

Its us again ok this has gone waaaayyyy too far the baby play is over and your mom is being held in a tank of orange juice in Wyoming. Don't ask us why, its just Gibby way of handling a safe (clean) death. Now if you would proceed with cautions we can be on our way with the safe return of Nora's egg and all the other stuff. You truely are a crimal/mastermimd/pretend spy/prehistoric mountain of doo (thats just being sitting there because no one wants to pick it up)/Big Bee/nub. Well that felt good now I'll meet you at the bar after your gambling session and you return our stuff and we will give you your mom's corspe and the tank of juice.
