Shia LaBeouf Headlining John Grisham's The Associate
December 2, 2008
by Alex Billington
It looks like Shia LaBeouf will continue to call Paramount Pictures his home. LaBeouf has been cast as the lead in the big screen adaptation of John Grisham's The Associate. Paramount just acquired the rights to the book, which won't be published until January. LaBeouf will play a student who's about to graduate from Yale Law School when he's manipulated into accepting a job at a prestigious law firm and given privileged information about a multibillion-dollar lawsuit. This marks LaBeouf's sixth big film at Paramount, following Disturbia, Transformers, Indiana Jones 4, Eagle Eye, and the upcoming Transformers 2.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, of Shooter, Transformers, and Stardust, is producing. He was given the book by Grisham's rep while shooting Transformers 2 in the Middle East, where both he and LaBeouf agreed to do it. I might say that it seems like the role was made for LaBeouf, given Grisham hasn't often had young lead characters, but I highly doubt that was the case. I'll be interested in hearing more about the story and whether it lives up to Grisham's past legal thrillers. So far it sounds like it could turn out to be a pretty solid story with some good twists. You can already pre-order a hardcover copy of the book on Amazon.

Labeouf seems to play the same type of character in every one of his films, the sarcastic generation Xer, so it'd be nice if he could break out in this role and do something completely different. Something similar to the character he portrayed in Bobby, but less comical.

i hate shia lebeouf… in all the movies i've seen him he just plays himself. If lebeouf was attacked by giant robots, if lebeouf saw his neighbor kill someone, if lebeouf met Indiana Jones. He's not even interesting. It just makes me mad when there are so many other actors that can act or are at least more interesting than him and he gets all these big movies

yeah… well… hopefully he has the chance to show us some actual chops in this one as opposed to all the over produced action trash he's been doing. (though I loved Transformers - my childhood's fault)

Well it seems most people would agree that Shia Le Douche sucks and majority rules so how in the hell is he getting all these movies? Oh yeah I wonder if him being jewish and having connections has anything to do with it. Unfortunatley I will still watch Transformers for the robots. I wish this guy would move over and let real talent and somebody people want to actually see on the screen act.

I don't understand why you guys hate him so much. He's an amazing actor and he is in a lot of movies that are super popular. He's the reason I saw Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull and one of the reasons it was so popular. Give him credit where credit is due. Jeesh.

Shia LaBeouf is the best actor out there - a legend in the making. He nails every single role he takes on and is such a crowd-pleaser. And Valeriewriter, I do agree that he can do no wrong. ;-D

OMG. Will you crazy ppl just stop defending his ugly no-talent ass? He obviously has connections because nobody in their right mind would put him in all these huge blockbuster summer movies if he didn't. MAN!!! It just gets my goat that he is in movies that are MUST-SEE. Some doofus left a comment to just not watch his movies… FRICK! That's kinda hard when he undeservedly is cast into something like TRANSFORMERS or INDIANA JONES!!! Hey Shia!! If you happen to come across this site.. PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU!!!! TAKE YOUR UNDESERVED MILLIONS AND DO US ALL A FAVOR AND DISAPPEAR!!!!! STOP RUINING OUR BELOVED MOVIES !!!! I AM BEGGING YOU!!! YOU STINK AS AN ACTOR!!! STOP RUINING MY FAVORITE MOVIES!!!! ARRRRRGHHH!!!!
