Director Kyle Newman Goes From Fanboys to Emo Boy
December 4, 2008
by Alex Billington
Most moviegoers still haven't seen Kyle Newman's feature directorial debut - Fanboys - but once they eventually do, they'll acknowledge that he's a filmmaker with an immense appreciation for all things geek. Newman (seen above) has just announced his next project, an adaptation of the cult comic book series Emo Boy. The story follows, as you might've guessed, a kid who is so emo, that he gains "emo powers" when his emotions are strong enough. Vanguard Films first discovered the comic book at Comic-Con and recently acquired the rights, with the series' own writer Stephen Edmond set to write the screenplay.
No word on how quickly this will head into production, although Newman doesn't have any other projects on his slate. Vanguard is hoping to make the music an important part of the film. They've also described the tone to be similar to Napoleon Dynamite, Harold and Maude, and Zoolander. My first impression is that this sounds awful, but I've got faith in Newman as a filmmaker and trust that he didn't just choose some throwaway project for his follow up to Fanboys. Those curious about the comic book can pick up the first volume, subtitled "Nobody Cares About Anything Anyway, So Why Don't We All Just Die?", on Amazon.

I hope "emo boy" cuts his wrists and actually dies. Unlike all the other emo kids who just do it so mommy will pay more attention to them.
