More Hollywood Remakes: Romancing the Stone, Arthur, They Live

Instead of dishing out a complete article for each and every one of these painful Hollywood remakes today, I thought I'd throw them together into one big article. That way you can minimize your anger and frustration at Hollywood and save your energy for other more worthwhile things. Fox is remaking Romancing the Stone, a 1984 adventure romance, with Daniel McDermott set to write. British comedian Russell Brand will remake Arthur, a 1981 comedy that starred Dudley Moore, for Warner Brothers. And lastly, Universal is remaking John Carpenter's 1988 film They Live, but doesn't have a writer on board yet.
The one that really interests me is They Live, which was part sci-fi thriller and part social satire, about a construction worker that finds sunglasses that let him see aliens walking among us and controlling humanity. It's known for a five minute fight scene and the line, "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass… and I'm all out of bubblegum." My worry is that this seems like a task as monumental as remaking Army of Darkness - and I hope they don't screw it up. Neither Romancing the Stone or Arthur deserve any more mention than they've already received, as I expect them to be forgettable remakes.

Remaking Arthur is almost Sacreligious. That film is Dudley Moore's. End of story. As for They Live -Im a huge Piper fan and really like the film although I don't have a problem with a big budget remake. I though Douglas was going to star in a 3rd Romancing the Stone. Holy Cow the remakes are coming fast and furious!

They Live was a work of art. Doesn't need remade, a story in a similar vein would be good, but why remake?
The other two remakes are like being stabbed in the eyes with a frozen weasel til your brain dribbles out your ear, were they not throwaway enough when they were first made.
They need to start killing writers when they suggest these stupid remakes, that would make the lazy bastards buck up their ideas, I still can't believe they actually had the balls to go on strike and then come back with this complete rubbish.

I have never seen Romancing the Stone or Arthur, but what I have seen is They Live and that movie is a classic (in my opinion) and I would definitatly like to see a remake of it. They can easily make the movie more epic and have more stuff going on in it (with a longer running time also, if thats not to much to ask for).
Overall I'll definately pass on seeing a remake of those other two movies, but a remake of They Live has the potential to be a good movie!
Oh, and I when I meant "epic" I mean it, as in like $100Million+ Budget Epic!

I'm disappointed to hear about Romancing the Stone but remakes don't surprise me anymore whatever. I hated Arthur the first time around and with Russell Brand in it I'm sure I'll feel the same way the second time around.

They Live is a low-budget John Carpenter classic/cult and should stay that way!
On the other hand, it's worth being noticed by a wider audience.
In this post (25 Anime remakes: Hollywood’s new cash cow) I've already suggested Hollywood is looking for new cash cows and I guess they are getting more desperate every day…!

I liked Romancing the Stone as it was. In the past and a cute movie. Please dear lord stay away from it.
As for Arthur, damn damn damn! DON'T MESS WITH A CLASSIC! HAVE RESPECT FOR ONE OF MOORE'S MOST WELL KNOWN ROLE!
