Len Wiseman Bringing Atlantis Rising to the Big Screen

Len Wiseman, director of Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard as well as husband of Kate Beckinsale, has signed on to direct an adaptation of the apocalyptic sci-fi comic Atlantis Rising for DreamWorks. The project was brought to the studio by Transformers and Star Trek screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who will be producing the project just as they did with Eagle Eye. No writer has been attached yet. Before Wiseman gets to Atlantis Rising, however, he will be tackling another project called Motorcade first. Although it's only in early development, Atlantis Rising sounds like a fascinating sci-fi adventure film.
Created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Atlantis Rising is a five-part miniseries published by Platinum Studios. Story kicks off when seismic disturbances at sea force the military to investigate the deepest part of the ocean, where an underground civilization emerges to engage in war with planet Earth. "After more than a thousand years of peaceful coexistence, Atlantis and the surface world are on the brink of war with the fate of both civilizations hanging in the balance." You can find out a lot more over on the official website for the comic, or you can buy some back issues at their store. I'm very curious myself and might pick up a few.

I hope they portray the Atlantis population as a similar species to our own rather than trying to make them look evil so we have a definitive side to route for. If they show the passionate side of both the human species and the Atlantis species than this could work quite well because the viewer will have to decide on their own who are better suited to take care of and remain on the planet.

I really hope this guys get it right, unless they have somebody like Michael Tsarion, an expert in the subject, I dont see this film being half interesting.

I've been a fan of portrayals of Atlantis as a sort of scientifically advanced
super-civilization since George Pal's Atlantis The Lost Continent in the '60's.
Many comics–including DC and Marvel–have presented variations on this theme.
I always liked the idea of this advanced race, the holders of "forbidden"
knowledge we've still not regained, that somehow perished through their own hubris.
Hopefully, this movie will contain some of those elements.

I was really hoping that this article was based on Clive Cusslers novel, "Atlantis Rising" but it wasn't and that would be a hella good movie. If anybody likes indiana jones would like this that book. Cause it's all action/adventure. I suggest anybody intrigued should look it up. This movie sounds interesting though!

i read the comics that are out on the website and they were great. i really did not like the art of the comics at all. it was confusing at times. the story however was great. i would love to see this movie done right. also i think the cover of the first comic is one of the most stupid things i have ever seen

I've read some of the comics and I felt them somewhat amateurish. The art sucked at times, it felt like an imitation of Aeon FLux. Here's hoping the movie surpass the source material.
