Reilly, Tomei, and Hill Join the Duplass Brothers Next Comedy
December 10, 2008
by Alex Billington
The Duplass Brothers, more commonly known as Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass (seen above), have announced the cast for their next feature film. Tentatively titled Safety Man, the story centers on a recently divorced man, played by John C. Reilly, who meets the woman of his dreams, played by Marisa Tomei. However, she has a teenage son, played by Jonah Hill, who has no interesting in sharing his mother with a new man. The Duplass Brothers have a very unique brand of comedy, part of which involves shooting all the scenes in the film in sequence, as opposed to out-of-order like most other films.
Not too much more is known about the project, but it is set up at Fox Searchlight, which already means good things. Most readers probably don't know who the Duplass Brothers are, and that's a shame. I was only introduced to them earlier this year when I saw their film Baghead, which was a hilarious blend of comedy and horror like I've never seen before. They have a very fresh filmmaking style that is literally like nothing else out there and I hope you check them out. They're already in post-production on another indie comedy titled The Do-Deca-Pentathlon, however, Safety Man is their first mainstream project with name actors.

this kinda sounds like a different take on "mamas boy "……but that was funny and i think john c. reilly is great, so i'm looking forward to a trailer on this. in a side not: i wonder if marisa tomei will be gettting naked in the film? hey, i'm all for naked MT but, i've just noticed that she's been doing the "naked thing" in about every movie she's been in, of late. curious as to what brought on that career decision.

Actually, I think this sounds exactly like "Man of the House"…too bad they don't have the big names of Chevy Chase and Jonathon Taylor Thomas!!!

The Puffy Chair is mandatory viewing, not only to get the Duplass Brothers vibe, but as an excellent representative of today's independent film. Highly recommended.
