We all probably use IMDb way too much - but that's just because it's one of the greatest movie websites ever created. However, I'm going to guess that most people have never heard of the MOVIEmeter - right? The MOVIEmeter is an industry tracking service on IMDb that simply measures how many times a movie (or celebrity) has their profile page viewed by visitors. In essence, it's a way of determining what the top searched movie or celebrity is on the site - a good indication of who or what people are thinking about. IMDb has compiled their own Top 25 Films of 2008 based on this statistic - so let's get on with it.
Obviously this list is going to have a lot odd results. That's because people were indeed clicking on the Twilight page millions of times when it was in theaters a few weeks ago and Tr2n has also gained a lot of buzz since Comic-Con and so on. In fact, the only reason I wanted to feature this list is because it is so diverse. It just shows you how hype is so varied and so much different than what's expected.

I don't think I really need to mention all this, but I will, before other people do first. This list is based on stats from the entire year, so because Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was originally supposed to be out in November, it still earned a large number of hits. Things like The Expendables are complete anomalies, but because it has such an impressive cast, it somewhat makes sense. No Country for Old Men, Juno, There Will Be Blood, Into the Wild, and so on are most likely on this list due to their Oscar buzz in February/March. Lastly, it's our best guess that The Shawshank Redemption has to do with the fiasco involving The Dark Knight's ranking and fans trying to vote down the other top films on that list.

But with something constructive to add, this list to me is a total anonamoly (sp?) on how TR2N is so high along with others. I know it is by what is the most frequented, but it has no value to it outside of popularity. It is intresting none the less.

Hahaha. Well, I like Fight Club too, but it isn't the best either. Also, I didn't "slam" Shawshank, I just took it down a step or two.
I think that The Godfather, Carol Reed's The Third Man, Seven Samurai, and a number of other films are better. As far as the last fifteen years goes, Shawshank is arguably the best, but definitely not the best of all time.
