Wanted

I'd nearly forgotten about it, but Wanted was one of the best summer films, just below Iron Man. And like Iron Man, a sequel is already in the works, as we've known for quite a while. Comic book author Mark Millar recently updated Newsarama and spoke about his plans for the sequel, which do not include writing another comic. Millar explains that the six issue series was all he had ever planned for and won't be doing another. As for the movie, though, Millar mentions that James McAvoy will be back (obviously) and that he is doing some minor work to help point the screenwriters and director in the right direction.

Millar tells Newsarama: "What I will be doing is providing them with a very small amount of stuff for a story, and that will be used as a basic story that they can build from. It will be a small outline that can possibly be picked apart and not used - but it will be something exclusively for the second film, and no one will ever really see it." Those who are familiar with Millar's graphic novel know that it's quite different from the movie. Millar mentions that they're still going back to it for the sequels. "It will be some of the stuff that we didn’t utilize from the first book for the movie - like chapters three and four - there will be some stuff from that, so in the loosest sense it will be based on the book, but only very little."

This is only a brief update from Millar, but enough to hold us over until they set a start date for the sequel. We previously confirmed that screenwriters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas are already working on the scripts for both Wanted 2 and Wanted 3. It's definitely helpful to have Millar's involvement, but I think the movie set an entire story up on its own and doesn't really need any of the graphic novel to continue on. Thankfully the movie was good enough that it isn't an issue for it to continue in its own little universe. I'm already looking forward to revisiting all of the summer's big action movies again in the comfort of my own home, including Wanted. And I know I'll be excited for a sequel right away. Thoughts?

I agree, Wanted provided one of the best movie experiences of the summer. I hope 2 & 3 have Timur at the helm.

Was Wanted really that good? Everyone I talk to thinks it had enough corny, COMPLETELY unbelievable parts that outweighed the good. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed a lot of it but 10,000 rats with little bombs, shooting a gun through some 180lbs man's eye socket while throwing him around like a ragdoll, or driving a viper across a bus after slamming into it at 100 mph... these parts were enough for me to think it really wasn't that good... it was a fight club wannabe movie with more action.

One of the best of the summer? I thought it was a little ridiculous. It wasn't as horrible as I'd imagined, but it wasn't even a pimple on Iron Man's ass. If you're a huge fan of montage's and you like to see characters go from scrawny weakling to, killer of the century in 1 minute, you're gonna love this film.

BORING!!! I really do not want to see a sequel to this movie, and it annoys me how Hollywood took a great graphic novel and ruined it. And worse Mr. Millar who is just in it for the pay cheque, he came out in a featurette before the movie came out and said that the movie was almost "page for page for the first 40 minutes" BULLSHIT!!! And this will just be more bastardisation of the comic that I fell in love with a month before I watched the movie in preparation for the film. "This movie will be sponsored by HANES"... Michael Jordan will probably make a cameo

I think Wanted will land in my Top 5 of the Summer. Hmm, make that Top 7 or 8. I didn't know much about it beforehand, but after all the nay-saying I'd heard from the fanbois it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The cast really elevated this film though, and any sequels are going to suffer from the loss of Jolie and Freeman. And the fat butcher guy.

almost worst movie ever made i have no clue why angelina jolie and morgan freeman were even acting in that movie. plus if you like slow motion this is your movie almost half of it its in slowmotion. story was good but very poorly and corny executed but that just me

    you are a serious retard.

I like how Millar's a sellout for writing HIS story the way HE wants to. Grow up. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Like every action movie, Wanted has it's logic flaws. But the fact is, it's directed in such a highly kinetic and mezmerizing style that I came out of that movie jazzed up and ready to pick a fight. What can I say? It not only pressed my "suppressed white-boy rage" button, it flattened it.

I enjoyed the movie, but how can they possibly make a decent sequel when they killed off just about the entire cast?
  • Alexander
i agree completely with Chris W. good movie but almost everyone died in the end so idk how good a sequel could be
  • Chris
Yeah, the bits about utilising bits they left out kinda confused me too. Like others have mentioned, the film binned most of the key plot points, changed the ending and killed off everyone worth mentioning. What is left from the comic books that's even applicable any more?

Slappy, Ian and tom can i invite you over for dinner. After seeing the first few responses to my comment you guys said exactly everything I was going to say in this one. So really, this was just a wasted post. But I will be ready for Wanted 2 because Wanted was: Fun, hilarious and action packed with a very unique style. And to all those who don't like the fact that myself and others enjoyed this movie ( I think it was in the top 5 {TDK, IM, IH, Wall e, Wanted}) tough beans. P.S. If you couldn't tell the reason for the "slow-mo" please don't purchase anymore movie tickets ever.

One of the best experiences of the summer? You guys are pathetic. I've only been reading FS for a couple of months now and it's always great, but even calling Wanted a 'good' film is idiocy. I don't even want to go into the fact that Iron Man was put in the same sentence...comparing the two is the funniest thing I've read on here.

Notice how I didn't insult you for not liking it. Always grow. Grow all ways. :)

Is it me or has Mark Millar become extremley annoying?
  • Eric
this was a mockery of a comic adaptation but come on this was soley meant on being a fun thrill ride. I personally would love to watch a sequel of it ,James MaCavoy gave a good FUCK YOU (a good tone) performance. Frank miller i believe is in it for the dough but in my opinion instead of writing his comics on paper NOW he can translate his ideas on the silver screen. Wanted was just i believe a test run for it and I thought it was really good it didnt have the same mood or tone as the comic but i liked it. Also people who say its a fight club wannbe 1 there obviously not a comic fan or 2 just read the wanted comic.
  • Eric
also who cares if the entire cast was killed off, do people really think jolie gave a good performance she didnt even say like 5 words in the movie. or what about morgan freeman this movie could sabotage his career taking up another sequel will turn it to dust. Making a fresh start with a diffrent cast and James is a good decision, ESPECIALLY with jolie's baby and pitt drama.
  • MBD
Enjoyed the comic, hated the movie. Not because it didnt follow the comic, it was just down right ridculous and lame. I'll see the sequels though, just because I can.
