Jerry Maguire director Cameron Crowe (pictured above) has been laying low for the last few years, but is now coming back in style with both Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon set to star in his next film. Currently untitled, Crowe's new flick is a contemporary-set romantic comedy adventure. There aren't any other details available yet, but it was a hot enough project that Sony won in a bidding war over four other studios. Unfortunately we probably won't get to see this film for another two years - it's not slated to begin shooting until January next year when Stiller and Witherspoon finally have openings in their schedules.
Crowe's other memorable films include Say Anything, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, and Elizabethtown. He also wrote the script and will be producing this project alongside of Scott Rudin. While there are no other major details yet, this is a major purchase for Sony, the second big bidding war victory this year alongside of Roland Emmerich's 2012. It sounds like this project has some incredible potential and Sony is interested in putting it in a premium slot - whether that's summer or whether that's Oscar is not exactly known yet.
I'm not personally a big fan of Cameron Crowe, so although I know almost all of films have been great, I can't particularly say I'm looking forward to this yet. I love Reese Witherspoon, but I'm typically not a big Ben Stiller fan. I'll reserve my judgment until we get some real details on this - specifically a real plot synopsis. I know it'll have a great soundtrack, as all of Crowe's movies do, but that doesn't mean it will be good. And I'm curious whether Crowe still has it in him or whether he's already burned out considering Elizabethtown wasn't that great. Are you the least bit excited for Cameron Crowe's newest project?
