Eli Roth and RZA Teaming for The Man with the Iron Fist

An interesting tidbit of news was unearthed today surrounding Wu-Tang Clan's The RZA and Eli Roth over on SlashFilm. In an interview on Billboard, The RZA said that he has "developed a martial arts film with Hollywood pal Eli Roth called The Man with the Iron Fist." He also mentions that the project has "the blessing" of his teacher Quentin Tarantino. Roth is an outspoken fan of chopsocky and The RZA worked closely with Tarantino on the Kill Bill soundtracks as well as provided the score for the "Afro Samurai" anime series, so we know this is somewhat of a passion project for both of them. As for what exactly it might involve, who knows? Either way, the prospect of Roth, RZA, and Tarantino working together to create a martial arts film sounds incredibly awesome no matter how you look at it!

I'm amazed that this hasn't really been mentioned, but it sounds like a project in the very early development stages. Although RZA didn't reveal very much, I'm certainly interested just for the badass factor. Ever since Tarantino and Rodriguez opened my eyes with Grindhouse, I've become a fan of all sorts of grindhouse fare, from chopsocky to motorcycle flicks like Hell Ride to old school exploitation films. And The Man with the Iron Fist definitely sounds like something in that same vein - so bring it on! The RZA also recently partnered with Hans Zimmer for the Babylon A.D. score - another awesome collaboration. We'll start some further investigation into this project further and update it once we hear anything from Roth, RZA, or Tarantino. Any thoughts on what The Man with the Iron Fist might be about?

I think Marvel will have a problem with this.

I agree with #3. I thought Marvel had a film based on their Iron Fist character in development, with Ray Park (aka Darth Maul) as a potential lead. Hmmm.....Maybe Marvel will let Eli & The RZA do the Iron Fist movie for 'em....

Wait wait, is this an Iron Fist movie or some other thing?

    This is some other thing.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope Tarantino doesn't take a major role in the production of this film. If ever there was a self-righteous hack on this planet, it would be him. All the asian films he helps bring over ALWAYS have "TARANTINO PRESENTS" plastered all over them like he was some God bringing his very own masterpieces to the states.

i thought there was an Iron fist movie coming anyway. Hopefully marvel does have a problem with this (hopefully it doesnt turn out to be something silly like an actual iron fist (tho i beleive it could work)) instead of ripping off a name why not just do a movie based on the actual character its still cool seems like a waste is all not to

sounds pretty sweet, im looking forward to what they have in store for us with this movie!

And Eli Roth continues his much-deserved slide into obscurity...

The only thing that might get in their way could be Marvel. The have a character, that's a martial artist named Iron Fist. With the Lucke Cage movie coming out, it would be a good companion to it

Are you guys kidding me? This is going to be awesome!! If you dont like kung fu movies then fuck off and watch something else. If you want awesome surreal fast paced action you probably couldnt assemble a better american crew. Just because you guys see that a black man is making a movie everyone goes OH NO, you werent complaining when Kill Bill came out were you?

the script will probably be some kind of amalgamation of a contemporary urban setting and classic themes from chinese marital arts movies like the chinese boxer, the one-armed boxer / master of the flying guillotine, five fingers of death, invincible armor, and other flicks that use that "iron fist" theme. personally i want to see another modern approximation of pai mai from "executioners from shaolin," or somebody else using the "iron armor" technique being taken down by the rza's "man with the iron fist," ala "invincible armor." should be cool for fans of chinese cinema.
